10 things I hate about teething

10 things I hate about teething

Ugh, teething. That horrible stage in a baby’s life where they make the transition from adorable little gummy creatures to red cheeked, grouchy beings with fangs. I am not ashamed to admit that I HATE teething, it is the worst thing about the baby days; give me sleep deprivation over a day stuck in the house with a shrieking teething baby any day. I understand that having their gums tortured by spiky little milk teeth isn’t exactly a load of laughs for babies either and I’m sure if my boy could talk he would tell me that he friggin hates teething too. If you haven’t guessed it already, Alex is teething (duh) , he has one little tooth at the bottom of his mouth but no matter how much he chomps on his little fist, no more teeth have made an appearance yet.  These past few weeks haven’t exactly been baby bliss with my little one feeling the full of effects of teething and to take out some of my frustrations I have decided to write down all things I hate about stupid f***ing teething, in true 10 things I hate about you (best film ever?) style. If your baby is teething too, I am sure you can relate.

10 things I hate about teething

I hate the way you make him cry

And the way he screams and shrieks

I hate the way there’s not much I can do

But just kiss his hot rosy cheeks.

I hate the way you stop him smiling

And the way you make him so sad

I hate you so much it makes me upset

It even makes me mad.

I hate the way you make him dribble

And that you sometimes make him hot

I hate it when you stop him from sleeping

Even worse when you cover him in snot.

I hate that I can’t make you stop

And the fact you’re not going away

But mostly I hate that you’re hurting my baby

every second and every minute of every day.

Ok, so I am not sure if that’s actually 10 things or not but they are definitely the worst part of teething. Other things I hate are the fact all Alex’s clothes get soaked from dribble and that he gets nappy rash when his teeth cut through. Oh, and I hate that teething makes Alex either want to breastfeed all day or just not eat at all. Maybe I should have written 100 things I hate about teething?

We have been through so many teethers, gels and granules and, short of dosing him on the really bad days with calpol, there’s really not much that helps. Is your little one teething? Have you got any suggestions on how I can make this process as comfortable for Alex and as stress free as possible for me? Leo got all his teeth really quickly and he didn’t seem to suffer but with Alex it is a different story. I would love to hear your experiences of teething and any tips you may have for me.

Such a horrid time for them, I’m sure this is one of the reasons we can’t remember being babies! #KCACOLS

Teething is miserable and there’s so little you can do about it to help manage the pain. Just chew on a rusk … It’ll be fine! Yeah, because adults would do that 🙁 Good luck with getting though it

the absolute worst part of those early years. it boggles the mind that in all these years of evolution, teeth still just crash through their poor little gums like this #KCACOLS

It really is awful for them and us to watch. I found Nelson’s or Ashton and Parson’s sachets worked a dream along with his amber anklet. Some days though he was just suffering so badly I used to give him Calpol so he could just be peaceful and rest for a bit. Glad those days are behind us now.

Teething is incredibly grim for babies and Eco really suffers badly with them! He’s a late bloomer though, bottom left came through around 10 months old and the other three ( bottom right and top two) all came through at the same time when he was 11 months. Despite lots of finger chewing, at 15 months nothing else has broken through though we can see a few under the gums. Sophie La Giraffe, other natural teether and Nelsons teething granules all help us. Hope you find a better solution #KCACOLS

Bagels. Frozen or otherwise. Bagels with peanut butter. That’s what we do. #kcacols

It kills me whenever my son Colton goes through his teething episodes it’s a nightmare to be honest, his cries of hunger and the teething pain sounds similar so I accidentally make it worser when I try giving him a bottle.

Poor little guy is miserable, drooling, screaming bloody murder, and breaking blood vessels in his forehead when this episodes happen.

All I can do is just comfort him the best I can.
