10 newborn baby products I couldn’t live without

Over the past 3 and a half months we have accumulated quite a lot of baby paraphernalia in our house. While there are a few items that have been left to gather dust in Alex’s nursery, there have been a few products that have been literal lifesavers since Alex was born. With baby stores bursting with products parents are coaxed into believing they MUST HAVE and are ESSENTIAL, it can be easy to overspend when shopping for your new arrival. However, there really are some baby products that have made life with a newborn so much easier and I simply could not live without them now. If you have a baby on the way then here is list of baby products I couldn’t be without and you might just find useful too..

10 newborn baby products I couldn’t live without.

1 Tippitoes mini baby bath £13.99 (Amazon)

baby products

I LOVE this baby bath. Washing a newborn is slippery and a pretty scary task, trying to hold a wriggly baby with one hand and wash them with another is a serious parenting challenge. I love this bath as you can lye baby down on the built in seat and the padded back supports their head  right from newborn so you have both hands free for washing. This bath has made bathing Alex so easy and we enjoy a stress free bath time every night.

2. Kari Me stretchy wrap £44.95 (Kari Me)

a34

I love babywearing and with 2 children to look after I definitely couldn’t be without my stretchy wrap. We have had a Kari Me wrap on loan from our local sling library but if I ever have another baby I will definitely be buying my own. The wrap is easy to tie and will give you your hands back so you can get on with housework/blogging/eating cake/playing with older children and you can still have your baby all snug and close to you.

3. Hooded towels £10 (Mothercare)

baby products

Yes you can just use a normal towel but hooded towels do make getting baby out of the bath so much easier. Alex (and Leo when he was young) hates coming out of the bath but once he is wrapped all snug in his towel with the hood up he is a happy boy again. A cold baby is not a happy baby and the best way to keep your little one warm after a bath is to stop any precious heat escaping from their head.

4. Gro Bags £22.50 (Mothercare)

alexsleep

When Alex was tiny I was putting him to bed just with a blanket but he was waking up cold most nights and getting him in and out of his moses basket for feeds and sorting his blankets out each time was a massive pain. Once I put him into a baby sleeping bag we all started getting mush more sleep, Alex was unable to kick his cover off and I would leave him in his bag for feeds so I didn’t have to try and quietly tuck him back into a blanket after he had fallen asleep feeding.

5. Tommee Tippee bath and room thermometer £14.99

baby products

This is the best bath thermometer ever. Trying to guess if you have run your baby’s bath too hot, too cold or just right is really tough; people say stick your elbow in the water to test the temperature but I don’t trust my elbow as I have my own baths boiling hot! This thermometer is amazing because a little red light flashes if the water is too hot, it is digital too so it is really easy to see if the bath is the recommended 36 (ish) degrees for your baby. I know this is a must have as we have lost ours and I am so stressed every bath time trying to guess if the water is the right temperature – I am definitely buying a new one.

6. Muslin cloths £6 (Tesco)

The more you buy of these the merrier, there are no end of uses for a muslin cloth. I use them for wiping snotty noses, cleaning up sick, something for Alex to cuddle, an emergency blanket or a breastfeeding cover. Having at least one of these in your nappy bag at all times is a really good idea, you will definitely find use for it during the day with your baby.

7. Dummies £4.64 (Amazon)

Ok, I know giving your baby a dummy or not is a personal choice, I was a proper dummy snob when I had Leo! I am not telling you that you have to give your baby a dummy, all I am saying is they make things so much easier. I spent hours of my life pacing the corridors trying to get Leo to sleep, rocking him and shushing him. Things were heading down the exact same path with Alex but my husband convinced me to try him with a dummy and we haven’t looked back since, he settles himself to sleep, is instantly soothed when he is upset and it hasn’t interfered with breastfeeding at all. I simply could not cope with 2 children if I didn’t have a dummy for Alex, I am the complete opposite of the dummy snob I once was!

8. Dummy clip £5.95 (Pretty Little Polka Dot)

baby products

We have only recently bought one of these and I wish we had got one when Alex was one month old and we first gave him a dummy. Dummy clips are a great way to keep your little one’s dummy in plain view and also stop them spitting it out onto the floor – I have lost count of how many dummies we have lost and how many have been spat out onto the dirty ground when I have forgotten a spare.

9. Vibrating baby bouncy chair £34.99 (Amazon)

bouncer

I could not cope without Alex’s bouncy chair, the vibrate setting helps send him off to sleep and the music and toys keep him entertained if I am busy doing housework or playing with Leo. The chair is also useful as it is small enough to bring into the bathroom while I have a shower and to move from room to room if I am doing things about the house and I want to keep Alex with me.

10. Baby wipes

Well, there’s just no mess that can’t be cleaned up with a baby wipe is there? I don’t need to say more, just make sure to stock up on as many packs of these as possible!

What baby products couldn’t you live without? I honestly don’t know how I would have coped the last few months without these items in my life. Obviously this isn’t a list of everything you need for a newborn, these are just some things that have made parenting easier for me over the past few months. It can be so so easy to break the bank when shopping for your newborn but somethings really are worth the cash. Is there anything you thought was a must have when you bought it but haven’t actually used? I would love to hear your thoughts and if you have anything you would add to my list please share in the comments.

Baby Wipes are I think the actual best thing ever. I don’t understand how I managed before children. What did I clean the bathroom with?

Grobags too. My daughter won’t sleep without one now. It’s like putting that on tells her it’s bed time. WE’re thinking about moving her on to a duvet soon….I can’t see it going well!

Yes I agree with most of these! Especially the wrap, super handy for a bubs that wont be put down. And I have a loft full of muslins – I kept buying them but still never seemed to have enough! #marvmondays

Great list. Muslins were a total essential for us and we had that same swing. I never had a sling but yours looks fab. Thanks for joining us for #marvmondays

Some of these things have been life savers for me too! Eric is my 3rd baby and the only one who has had a dummy, but I did try to give one to the other two haha!

Great list very practical! Baby wipes seem to be the answer for most things I’ve found! I couldn’t have lived without having dummies and a clip ( I am forever losing track of the dummies without this- there seems to be a dummy vortex in our house!). Think I will give the bath thermometer a try as I still struggle with getting the temperature right.

Fab post! I totally agree with lots of these essentials. First and second time round gro bags, hooded towels, muslins and dummies have been must have for us. Its so useful to read posts like these if youre navigating what you dont and dont need before having a baby so thanks for sharing it on #MarvMondays. Emily

Oh I love this post! We had a different baby bath but it was one of my must have items. We also used endless amounts of muslins 😉 Fab list! Thanks so much for linking up to #dreamteam hope to see you next time 🙂 x
