Pumping made easy with Lansinoh – Single electric breast pump review

Pumping made easy with Lansinoh – Single electric breast pump review

Breastfeeding has pretty much dominated my life for the past 3 months. While I do love cuddling up on the sofa and giving my little man a feed, having a baby demanding milk every 2 hours or so can be pretty exhausting. Thanks to breast pumps, babies are still able to have the breastmilk they love and us Mums can get a break too – yay! I have been using a manual pump on and off since Alex was born but I just wasn’t getting on with it, the effort it took to get 4oz of milk out just didn’t feel worth it. I was delighted when the lovely people at Lansinoh sent me their single electric breast pump and some feeding bottles to try. Lansinoh are my all time favourite brand for breastfeeding products so I was feeling hopeful that their single electric breast pump would not disappoint. Here is what Alex and I thought of our new feeding time friends.

Single electric breast pump review.

The first thing I thought when opening the electric breast pump box was that there were loads of separate pieces to the pump. I was initially a bit overwhelmed that it was going to be super complicated to put together but it wasn’t difficult at all, a quick look at the instruction booklet was all I needed to figure it out.

Before piecing the pump together I washed and sterilised all the parts that would be coming into contact with the milk, as instructed by the manual. This was a quick and easy process and once I had put all the bits together and got set in my chair it was time to get pumping!

The Lansinoh electric pump uses 2 phase suction technology to help you pump more efficiently and easily. The first phase is the let down phase, this mimics a baby’s fast sucks they do at the beginning of a feed to get your milk flowing. The pump does this for 2 minutes before automatically swapping to the expressing phase. You can alter the suction strength by using the + and – buttons.

The electric pump managed to get milk out really easily, something I struggled with using my manual pump, and I think the way you can make the pump replicate almost the exact same way your baby sucks has a lot to do with it. There are 6 levels of suction you can choose from, I found level 4 was the most similar to the natural suck of my little man.

The silicone breast cushion that you place on your boob when pumping is really soft and doesn’t irritate the skin at all. I sometimes found that part of my manual pump to be a bit uncomfortable against my skin but the comfort fit of the Lansinoh pump didn’t cause me any problems at all.

It takes me about 15minutes to get 3.5/4oz out, this may sound like a long time but considering Alex usually feeds for about 40minutes I am really impressed. I know he’s drinking around 4oz as he has never drank more than that out of a bottle before and he is definitely a little and often sort of eater. I am satisfied the electric pump manages to get out a whole feeds worth of milk in one go.

The only thing that let the pump down was that it doesn’t have a pause button. Whenever I wanted to take the pump off the breast to see how much milk was in the bottle I had to turn the pump off and then when I put it back on it would start off back on the let down suction phase again. It’s not a major problem, I just think having a pause button would be a good feature. Also, it is quite hard to see how much milk has been expressed without taking the pump off, unfortunately this is probably a design problem with breast pumps across the board.

For working mums who want to continue breastfeeding a good breast pump is a must and this pump is great as it can run off battery power as well as the mains, meaning you can use it anywhere. I was really pleased with the Lansinoh single electric breast pump. The 2 phase suction technology, the comfort and the ease in which the pump is able to express the milk makes it a great buy for all breastfeeding mums, whether it be for daily or just occasional use.

As well as the electric breast pump we were also sent a Lansinoh Natural Wave Momma feeding bottle to try. Alex has had milk from a bottle before but he can be a bit fussy at the start of a feed, struggling to figure out how the teat should sit in his mouth. I couldn’t believe how easily Alex latched on to the Momma bottle, there was no fussing at all and he accepted the teat immediately.

Unlike other brands of bottle we have used that claim to be perfect for breastfed babies, the teat on the Lansinoh bottle has the closest resemblance to a human nipple I have ever seen. The bottle teat is soft, flexible and is designed specifically to allow baby to feed exactly as they would from the breast, the natural wave movement of their tongue is supported by the teats clever design. The Momma bottles are also BPA and BPS free making them a safe choice for your baby.

The ease in which I have been able to express milk using the Lansinoh electric breast pump and the fact Alex will feed from the Momma bottle with no problems at all means Daddy will doing a few more of Alex’s feeds so I can have a break. Maybe I’ll use my new freedom to spend a morning in bed one of these days or go on a child free shopping trip, now that is a lovely thought ..
If you are in need of a breast pump then I highly recommend the Lansinoh single breast pump (find stockist here). Also, if you are despairing over lots of different bottles and your breastfed baby is turning their nose up to them all, give the Lansinoh Momma bottle a try, it really is as close to real deal as you can get it.

Are you a breastfeeding mum, what pump do you use? Are you like me and prefer an electric to a manual pump? Have you tried any of the Lansinoh products? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Disclaimer: I was sent the single electric breast pump and feeding bottle from Lansinoh free of charge. All words and opinions are my own.

I’m glad you got on well with this. I found the noise the pump I used made (can’t remember the brand now) really freaked me out but it was actually very comfortable. I think a pause button would be a great idea! Good luck continuing with it, you’re doing great.
Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday.

I wish I’d done more research before buying by pump. Because I wasn’t dead set of breast feeding I waited h till after my little one was born, when I felt the overwhelming desire to breast feed I then had to send everyone out in a panic to get everything I needed. Safe to say my breast feeding journey wasn’t a success. If there’s ever a next time, I’ll definitely be more prepared and do my research! Great review which I would have found extremely helpful if I would have read it this time last year

Breast pumps are awesome. I’m glad Alex is taking to a bottle. Snappy wouldn’t. Though I haven’t tried recently. #kcacols

This looks great! I used to have a good pump when I was breastfeeding Bella. It was nice because Nick was able to feed her and I was able to have a break. With Sienna, however, my luck wasn’t there. She just hated the bottles. I tried everything on the market and she wouldn’t take any so I ended up breastfeeding her until she was 18 months I think. But I don’t regret it. It was a lovely time although very demanding, lol. Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS. It is always nice to have you here, 🙂 xx
