My new blogging corner, part 1 – the wishlist

My new blogging corner, part 1 – the wishlist

2016 saw my blog go from just a hobby to something a little bit more serious. Although I am by no means a pro blogger or making a monthly wage from my blog, I have been able to make a bit of extra cash from blogging and hope to continue to do so in 2017.  Currently I am blogging from my PC which is stuck on a tiny table, wedged in the corner of my living room. If I am honest I find it very difficult to concentrate here, the living room is full of distractions and when I find some child free time to blog it can be all too easy to accidently watch TV instead or start tidying up all the toys/baby clothes/general mess littering the living room floor. So, to help me give my blog the love and attention it needs to grow and flourish in 2017, I have set myself a mission to create my own blogging corner. I don’t mean the corner I am currently squashed in now but my own little space in the house, away from the chaos of the living room and somewhere I can sit and type in peace.

Naptime Natter HQ is now moving upstairs to the attic, we have two rooms up there full of junk and there is a perfect little nook in one of them, just waiting for me to transform it into my blogging haven. I have a lot of work to do, it isn’t going to be an easy job but I can’t wait to get started on creating my new blogging corner and documenting it all here. Before I do though, I am writing down everything I would love to have in my new little office, if you are thinking of creating your own space for blogging too I hope you can get some inspiration from my wishlist. Dressing the bump for Summer 2016 – A wishlist

Dressing the bump for Summer 2016 – A wishlist

So the Great British Summer is here (apparently) and it is pretty clear that there is no way I am squeezing my ever expanding baby bump into any of last years summery outfits. All the pretty vests tops, little dresses and those high waist shorts I wore to death last year will be staying hidden away in the deep dark depths of my wardrobe this summer – and don’t even get me started on all my bikinis *sob*. Although I am a bit sad I can’t fit into these clothes anymore, I am overjoyed to have a baby growing in my belly and what a great excuse to go shopping for a whole new wardrobe. Finding nice maternity clothes can be a bit of a challenge as sometimes they just look a bit frumpy but I have found some really lovely outfits in the Dorothy Perkins sale perfect for the – hopefully! – warmer Summer months.  View Post

My toddler bedroom wishlist

It has been just over 2 months since we left our little house in Swansea behind and moved to our new home in Hampshire. Although everything has been unpacked for weeks and the place is starting to look a bit more homey, it still doesn’t really feel like home. The fact that we haven’t decorated a single room yet may be the culprit, without putting your own personal touch on a place it is hard to feel like it is really yours.

Most of the rooms in the house I am quite happy with, I would like to get some new carpets in and maybe brighten the place up with some fresh, bright paint but apart from that it’s not too bad. The one room I would really love to completely transform is Leo’s. When we lived in Swansea we weren’t allowed to decorate and pretty much all of his furniture is second hand. Leo has never really had a proper little boys room before and with the new year just around the corner, I think now is the perfect time to start planning a big bedroom make over.

So, here is my toddler bedroom wishlist. Maybe you will find something you like here too…

Bed
Last week we took the sides off Leo’s cot and he is now sleeping in his cot bed. Once he gets settled in to being in a big boy bed, I would love to get him a new one. The cot bed he is in now was my nephews and it has definitely seen better days.  Leo is obsessed with Thomas the Tank at the minute and I know he would just love this Thomas toddler bed from Mothercare. I love the extra storage underneath, you can never have too much storage space.

Wardrobe
Currently, all of Leo’s clothes are being stored in big, pine chest of drawers that used to belong in mine and Oli’s bedroom. I would love to get him a wardrobe where all his clothes could be stored as this would free up a bit of space in his small room. I love this one door midi wardrobe from Room to Grow, I like the shelf storage down the one side where I could fold all Leo’s trousers, pyjamas and other clothes, as well as displaying some photographs (on the highest shelf of course!). There is a rail on the other side where I could hang all his cute little tops.

Chair
Leo loves to just sit and look at books, he has a bean bag in his bedroom now but I don’t think it will be long before he out grows it.  This mini armchair from George at Asda is so cute, the red would bring a burst of colour to any room and the little sail boats are just adorable. I can picture Leo snuggled up in it now with his nose in a book, looking like he can actually read.

Curtains/blinds
Something Leo really needs (and me if I’m honest), is a good set of blackout blinds. Nap times are  always a struggle, with light coming in through the window it is difficult to convince a 2 year old it is time for sleep, this is also a problem at night time in the summer. I am tempted to move Leo to the attic bedroom just so I can get him these cute Disney blackout blinds from VELUX. There is a great Disney range available at VELUX, Leo loves Mickey and I am sure he would be delighted to see him peeping at his window. To go with the navy on his new chair, I would get him these lovely, navy curtains from Amazon, they are thermal as well which is great as we don’t have double glazing (!).

Decor/Wall art.
I am desperate to grab a paintbrush and paint over all the baby blue walls and open up Leo’s room a bit with some bright magnolia. To add to the navy theme we have got going on I would paint the gross, yellow skirting boards and radiators a nice dark blue. Leo has got a big Minion poster up on his wall that I don’t think I will ever be allowed to take down but I think it would also be nice if he had some personalised art work on display as well. I think this personalised family tree print from Not on the High Street is really sweet and would be a lovely added touch to any kids bedroom.
Carpet
The carpet in Leo’s bedroom is vile. There really is no other word to describe how awful it is. It is this strange yellowy colour with a weird brown pattern on it and several mysterious stains. I would love to rip it up with my own bare hands and replace it with something beautiful. I am thinking of maybe putting down a wooden floor (easier to clean up play dough and paint spillages) and making it cosy with this little astronauts rug from Wayfair, the colours hopefully complimenting the rest of the furniture in the room.
Book storage
Does anyone else have a child who has absolutely zero reading skills but owns more books than you? Leo has so many books, most of which are on the bookcase in the living room but there are still quite a few dotted about in his bedroom. A while a go Oli made Leo a massive toy box so we don’t have to worry about toy storage, phew, but I really struggle to keep all of Leo’s books tidy in his bedroom. I adore this alphabet bookcase from Tidy books, Leo’s books would look so much better stored in this than just in random piles on the floor.

Added touches
As this is a wishlist, I thought I would add a few other items that I would add to Leo’s bedroom if I had a bottomless pit of cash, or if it grew on trees.

Personalised jungle clock from Zazzle £24.85

Wall shelf from NestDesigns £55
Wooden initial Avengers ornament from Getting Personal £12.99
Personalised door plaque from Not on the High Street £9.95

Jumbo teddy hammock from Amazon £4.92

I think that is probably more than enough stuff for a 2 year old’s bedroom, don’t you? What do you think of these products, would you buy any for your little ones bedroom? If you could give your child’s bedroom a make over, what would you do? Let me know 🙂
