A night at the adult panto

I went out last night. I don’t mean I popped to the shop to get some milk and bread for the morning. I mean I went out, out. Like, I actually bothered to put make up on, put on something pretty and I drank alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol.

A couple of months a go my lovely cousin arranged a girls night out with myself, my sister and a few of her school run friends. She booked us all tickets to go see an adult pantomime at The Stage Door
in Southampton. The panto is called Beauty and her Beast and judging by the reviews I had read, we were in for a very naughty show.

My sister and I got the train in to Southampton and had an amazing passion fruit and rum cocktail before going to meet the others in the theatre. It was so so good, I wish I had written down what was in it. I quite like the idea of spending Christmas evening with a mince pie in one hand and a martini glass in the other,

Passion fruit cocktails are a.maze.ing!

Me sitting in a bar on a Saturday night, makes a change from a cup of tea on the sofa.

After finishing off our cocktails, we headed over to The Stage Door and met up with the other girls. The bar in the theatre is nice and cosy and was looking very festive with a Christmas tree in the corner. I got started on the gins while the other girls sipped on Prosecco (I think I am the only person in the world who doesn’t love the stuff). In no time at all it was time to go upstairs to the show room, find our seats and get ready for the show.

Beauty and her Beast is a very rude, crude and down right dirty twist on the tale of Beauty and the Beast and also Cinderella. The tale is told by a very flirty, sexually frustrated fairy, who has made it her mission to create romance between Beauty and the handsome Prince Charmless.
Dame Dollops, Muddles and Beauty’s best friend Tinker BellEnd all try and help bring the couple together. As you can imagine, there are lots of filthy jokes along the way and some hilarious songs with truly obscene lyrics. Do not go see this panto if you in the slightest bit prude, you won’t enjoy it, the foul language is relentless. The girls and I found it hysterical but there are probably some people out there who would be sat shaking their heads in disgust.
The pantomime is not just rude songs and dirty jokes though. There were lots of references to modern day popular culture, including the John Lewis Christmas advert, Adele’s Hello and David Cameron’s antics with a pig.  If you want to have a good laugh then you should definitely grab some friends and go see Beauty and her Beast. It is running until January 3rd, last night was only the second night and the cast were brilliant, I only noticed one little mistake – the poor fairy got her wings stuck to the ceiling, oops!

Once the show finished most of the girls went home. I don’t get out very often so there was no way I was going home at 10! My sister, cousin and I all headed back to the cocktail bar for late night happy hour. We really made the most of the 2 for 1 on drinks and at some point we decided we just had to go dancing. So that is exactly what we did. We headed off to a club and danced in to the early hours, it was so much fun.

Buy one get one free is always a good thing.
Now that I don’t go out every weekend, when I do manage to get a night on the town I enjoy it so much more and maybe, just maybe, I go a bit mad on the gin. Oh well, it is nearly Christmas and it will probably be at least another 6 months before I set foot in a night club again so one night of vast alcohol consumption isn’t going to hurt, is it?
Cousins.

Surprisingly, today I feel pretty good. Oli has been my hero, he got up with the kids this morning and made me not one, but two (two!) bacon sandwiches for breakfast. I really love that man.
Have you got any nights out planned this festive season? Would you go see an adult pantomime? I had such a laugh 🙂

I couldn't help giggling at the bit about maybe not hitting a club for another six months. You're definitely a younger mum. It would be 'may not hit another club ever again' for older mothers lol.
Glad you had a good time. And yes cocktails are just the best. (Will send you a link regarding that 😉 )
P.S. Shoulda called it Beauty and the Breast really 🙂

It was really fun and the bacon was exactly what I needed to get through the next day. Food tastes soo much better when it's cooked by someone else, doesn't it? 🙂 xx

I love the idea of an adult pantomime, but I've never heard of it! I wish there was one close to me. I love that it had lots of current relatable jokes in it, sometimes pantomimes can be a little dated so that's good. Good on you for going out out by the way, I hope you had fun! #Abitofeverything

I hadn't either! It was a really good night out though, much better than if we had just gone to watch the local production of Aladin xx

  18. December 17, 2015 / 1:32 pm

Yea it had lots of current stuff in it, it needed something to break up all the dirty jokes and toilet humour, haha. Maybe there will be something similar on by you next Christmas xx

  19. December 17, 2015 / 1:34 pm
