3 places to buy your child’s birthday present (that aren’t shops on the High Street)

It’s Alex’s second birthday this month. Firstly, I’m freaking out about my baby turning two but I’m also in a bit of a stress about what to buy him for his birthday. Our house is overrun with toys and I really don’t want to add more to it, there’s going to be no avoiding the massive influx of toys that will be taking over our house come the 21st of this month though! I’m getting bored of always shopping in the same shops on the high street and I’m trying to think of other places I can go browsing for Alex’s present this year.

3 places to buy your child’s birthday present (that aren’t shops on the High street).

 1. Catalogues – I like the idea of going a bit old school and snuggling up on the sofa with a big red pen and a catalogue and circling all the potential gifts we could buy for Alex. There are lots of websites online that can find you great offers on financing and comparing the prices of items bought from catalogues, such as justcatalogues.co.uk . Also buying from a catalogue means you are less likely (fingers crossed) to end up with any duplicates.

2. Facebook marketplace – You can get some great deals on second hand toys and bits and bobs for kids on Facebook marketplace. I love that you can  find things that look basically new but are a fraction of the price you would pay from them in the shop.

3. Instagram – Who would have thought Instagram would become such a good place to go shopping? I follow loads of small businesses and mums who have set up a side hustles selling handmade children’s gifts. There are so many accounts on Instagram selling gorgeous kids clothes, customisable gifts and handmade toys, blankets and teddies. Just browse relevant hashtags and a whole new world of shops will appear. Plus, by buying something from a small business on Instagram you are supporting someone and making their day, instead of just giving money to a big name brand.

I hope this post has given you some inspiration if you don’t fancy a trip to the shops to go buy your child’s birthday present. Obviously there are loads of places you can buy toys online but sometimes it’s nice to do something a bit different. Happy shopping!

Oh yes! Instagram! If you haven’t tried it, it’s a must. There are so many wonderful business owners really showcasing their goodies off in the best possible way. By using real people – so you can see how and why you need that… beach hut hire, new Christmas tree decoration, pair of shoes…notebook. So that’s Christmas sorted then for us lol

I like the idea of supporting small businesses on Facebook. I have never shopped using IG before. Something to think about in the future though.

I have found some awesome little gems on Instagram. I love that that a lot of them are mums or people venturing out on their own and it’s such a great platform to support them!

I have always wanted to make purchases off Instagram but haven’t found a page I feel I could Trust or can purchase more than one item from! I’ll have to look deeper!
