Birthday gifts my 3 year old really wants

Birthday gifts my 3 year old really wants

I am not sure how this is happening but my baby boy is turning three next month. THREE! I honestly don’t know where the time has gone. On the one hand it feels like no time has passed since I first set eyes on him, floating about in the birthing pool looking so peaceful and beautiful but then at the same time it feels like he has always been a part of my life. Birthdays bring with them lots of memories and sentimentality but it can also be a bit of a stressful time. Choosing birthday gifts for anyone can be difficult but when it comes to buying a present for your little ones there is always a bit of added pressure as you want to make sure you get them something they will really love. When shopping for Leo’s birthday gifts I always try and get something he will actually play with, something that will last more than a week and ideally I like to get a good deal on the price too.

This formula doesn’t always work, amongst the few success stories (anything train related) there have been far more failures. Leo’s wooden toy box has become the final resting place for so many birthday gifts that were only played with on the day they were opened. I have been left questioning if there is any point even buying him anything? Of course I can’t not get him a  birthday present but it just so hard to know what a toddler really wants.

This year for the big 3, Oli and I have decided to get Leo a bike. We are debating between either a balance bike or one with stabilisers that will last him a good few years. We are hoping Leo will like it. I have been wondering though, if Leo got to choose his own gift for his birthday, what would he ask for? I am sure toddlers would be much happier if we just gave them exactly what they wanted for their birthdays instead of just winging it and hoping they like what they are given. Here is a list of 10 birthday gifts I know for a fact Leo would love – if they were all possible that is!

10 birthday gifts my 3 year old really wants.

  • A trip to Thomas Land every single day for as long as he wants.
  • The promise of pasta or chips every day for lunch.
  • A giant field of his very own to run around in with no supervision.
  • His very own steam train.
  • The whole cast of Peppa Pig to come and live in our house.
  • Biscuits available on demand, preferably chocolate ones.
  • Permission to go about the rest of his days only wearing pants and wellies.
  • For Mummy and Daddy to provide a constant musical soundtrack of nursery rhymes and anything he is currently a fan of on the radio.
  • A private soft play centre, built as an extension on to the house.
  • The power to be as naughty and mischievous as he wants without Mummy and Daddy telling him off.

I am confident Leo would be over the moon if he got any of these birthday gifts on his special day next month. He’s not having any of it though, he’s having a bike. What would your toddler want for their birthday if you gave them the choice? Would their list be similar to Leo’s? In all seriousness, have you got any great gift suggestions for a three year old? I would love to know.

Ha ha, great post. My son turns 3 in 4 months and I’m already shopping for gifts! I think he would love some of the things your son would love too. Especially his very own soft play built on to our house. I, on the other hand, couldn’t think of anything worse! I’ve heard good things about balance bikes by the way! Hope he has a lovely birthday #fartglitter xxx

Ha I love the list of things your son would really want…yes definitely some similarities with mine. I think mine would like a fireman’s pole and a quiet motorbike too! He would also like us to get a garden waste bin…seriously, he keeps asking for one…so in a strange way he is getting sort of what he would like. His birthday is in a couple of weeks (3) and we’re getting him a toy bin lorry complete with bins. I think he’ll love it. Hope yours enjoys the bike, I think that’s a wonderful pressie and nice it’s one that will last (If you don’t go for the balance option). #bigpinklink

I love your list! I wouldn’t mind Peppa coming over as well and she can entertain my family but I will draw the line at muddy puddles. And who wouldn’t love to have a soft play extension? I think my children at 3 were actually more fascinated by the huge cardboard box the gift came in rather than the gift itself. Alot of our toys have also been played once and then discarded. Sigh. I actually “ration” the toys and allow him to play with a new toy every second week, so that stretches the time out a bit. #bigpinklink

Haha, three year olds. My son wanted a box of greetings cards to write to people and a key that opens every door in the world! Thanks for sharing. #bigpinklink

I wouldn’t mind spending all day in just my pants and wellies too! Not sure that the neighbours would be quite so thrilled with the idea though. A bike sounds like a fantastic idea. We got Miss Tot a scooter last year (only as we had kindly been given a second hand bike for her already) and she loves both of them. The only other thing we have recently invested in is a really big paddling pool. The kids adore it and will quite happily spend all day in it if the sun is out. Otherwise all of our other purchases have ended up in the bottom of the toy box gathering dust as you say! Happy birthday to your little man. Thanks for linking with #fartglitter x

My boy is three in October so his list would be similar 🙂

He’d also like the world to bend to him because he gets very, very cross when you like to correct him “no mummy, that is NOT a tiger” (it is).

Great post! I’ve found that my little one has started asking for a hoover! A HOOVER haha I’m not really sure why. The being naughty and mischievous one rings so true with my little one and the soft play area! I think my little guy would just adore that haha. #BloggerClubUK

Haha I love your list of things a three year old would really want! So true. I can be really hit and miss with toys and it’s so nice when you find something they genuinely love and play with all the time 🙂 #bigpinklink

Love this list. Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a private soft play area built as an extension on your house? I think I’d quite like that one! The cast of Peppa Pig would be on my girls’ lists too as would biscuits on demand 🙂 #coolmumclub

Balance bikes are amazing, didn’t get one for my son and he struggled to learn with stabilisers. My daughter had one (she is 4) and she can ride an ordinary bike already. I don’t have enough space for her list lol, but it included a lot of Frozen and her own ice palace.

Love this list! My little boy has asked me for a giraffe onesie constantly for his birthday in September. I better try and track one down 🙂 xx #fartglitter

This is a great list and I think Zach would love everything on there except the pasta – he hates pasta! Regarding the bike – we bought Zach a normal one for Christmas (so he was 3 and 3 months) and it’s taken him 6 months to be able to pedal it but now he can ride it brilliantly. He has a balance bike as well as we got one to review but he prefers the normal one and likes to take it in the boot to Nannie’s house! Thanks for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday
