16 weeks pregnancy update

I don’t know how this has happened but after the first 12 weeks moving by at the pace of a snail, all of a sudden I am now 16 weeks pregnant. I am very obviously pregnant now as well.

So this is what has been going on with me and bump since my last update at 12 weeks..

How have I been feeling?
So apart from feeling a little bit physically rubbish, I am feeling good! I am starting to get really excited about having another baby. October 21st is a long way off yet and there are still many months of pregnancy left to get through but I can’t help but daydream about holding a soft, warm newborn again and picturing what my boy Leo will be like as a big brother.

Big bump!

Any symptoms?
The first trimester of this pregnancy was so much tougher than that of my pregnancy with Leo. I am very lucky that I have not once found myself with my head down the toilet being sick but the nausea I have felt has been awful. This pretty much disappeared in week 14 but it still comes in waves every now and then. The horrible exhaustion seems to have passed too and I feel a bit more like my normal self now, no longer constantly feeling like I am running on empty. Although the sickness and tiredness has massively improved, I have been feeling light headed and dizzy a lot and I very nearly fainted the other week. Note to self: If you must faint, don’t do it front of your Mum who worries over everything! My blood pressure is low so I am blaming the dizziness on that, I also just need to make sure I eat regularly and don’t get too hot as this makes the dizziness worse.

Have I done any shopping/preparation?
It is still early days yet so I haven’t started any major nursery DIY projects or bought any of the big expensive things yet. This baby will be inheriting a lot of things from his/her older brother so in terms of shopping, I don’t have anywhere near as much stuff to buy as I did last time. After our 12 week scan I did go and buy a gender neutral baby gro from Mother Care, I just couldn’t resist.

What food am I loving/hating/craving?
The only craving I have had is tuna! I could eat it every day for lunch but you have to watch how much tuna you eat when pregnant, this has been annoying when all I have wanted is a yummy tuna salad. I am really loving stodgy, carby food which isn’t going to do my weight gain any favours but I just need toast in my life, and lots of it, ideally smothered in butter and jam. After having a big bowl of porridge and fruit for breakfast, I have found myself hungry and ready for lunch by 10am most days! To be honest there is not much food I am ‘hating’ at the minute apart from packet ham, the smell alone makes me turn a bit green.
Have I had any appointments?
After my 12 week scan I had my blood tests done to check the baby’s risk of having Downs and Edwards syndrome. I got my results back and baby is in the low risk category so that is a relief. On Wednesday I had my 16 week check up and the midwife said all seems well. She found baby’s heartbeat easily, I forgot how amazing it is to hear another persons heartbeat coming from my belly. My iron levels all seem OK and my blood pressure is low but at the minute it is nothing to be concerned about. Leo asked the midwife if she could listen to the baby in his tummy. It was so sweet and the midwife put the jelly on his chest and listened to his heartbeat, he looked so happy at the thought of having a baby in his belly too. I won’t see the midwife again now until July when I am 28 weeks, this feels like ages away but I am sure it will be here before I know it.

Have I felt baby move?
I thought I did a couple of weeks ago but have felt nothing since so it must have been gas. The midwife said I have a ‘large lump’ for a bump and she thinks it won’t be long before I start feeling movement. I can’t wait to feel all those little flutters again, it really is the most amazing feeling.

Baby is now this big..amazing!

What is happening with bump?
This week my baby is about the size of an avocado and weighs about 100g and is roughly 10cm long. So although I already feel huge and my bump is really noticeable, baby is still really tiny. Also, baby might have figured out how to suck his/her thumb by now, how adorable is that? Being pregnant really is so magical and sometimes I find it hard to believe what is going on in this swollen tummy of mine.
There is not much more to report for now, I will be back at 20 weeks for another update. If you can’t wait until my next post you can subscribe to my Youtube channel and check out my weekly pregnancy update vlogs. Here are some you might have missed..

I will see you again in 4 weeks, when my bump will probably be twice as big and all being well I will have another scan picture of baby to share with you all.
Are you pregnant too? How are you feeling? If you are parent of two, have you got any words of wisdom to share with me? Any advice will be eagerly received as I am pretty sure having two children is not going to be easy at all!

Aw congratulations! You have such a neat bump and it's good to hear you are mostly doing okay. The first trimester was the hardest for me. I always envy people who still enjoy eating food when they are pregnant, I could hardly eat a thing!
I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly…. Reading that has made me want another one!! #picknmix

I'll be 19 weeks tomorrow and feel like my tummy has just grown overnight. I'm due 1st Oct so not that far away from yours, yay for October babies this year! This is our first and we have our anomaly scan in two weeks which I'm super excited and impatient for! I've felt the first kick about two days ago and it's such a strange but wonderful feeling 🙂 #PicknMix

Sounds like you're doing great! I used to love feeling the fluttering in my tummy as well. It was one of the only things I really enjoyed about being pregnant. Hope you continue to stay well 🙂 #KCACOLS

Wow 16 weeks! I'm so glad you're feeling a bit better now, I didn't suffer with sickness with Evie but I did absolutly hate the smell of sausages/bacon being cooked. I avoided pork actually throughout all my pregnancy. Are you planning on finding out the gender? #kcacols

So exciting! I remember well comparing the baby size to various fruit and veg! This was also the time I went off tea (devastating!) Glad you're doing well, all best wishes for a continued healthy pregnancy x #KCACOLS

Lovely update. I think the only thing I miss about pregnancy is the movements. Those flutters are so lovely #KCACOLS

Aww such a lovely bump update. Im 33 weeks pregnant and I love reading other peoples bump updates. Its nice to read bump updates from others that are still early on in their pregnancy and rememeber what that was like and just how much has happened since. We're expecting baby number two also so I'm looking for those words of wisdom from those that have been there before us too! 😉 Emily #KCACOLS

Awwww, I love your little bump! I had a near identical vest top when I was preggo and it's bringing back memories! Best tips I can give you, is to fill up the freezer, even if it's just Leo sized portions, so you can give him something healthy when you're too exhausted to cook, and create 'feeding boxes' of new, (doesn't have to be brand new, just new to Leo), toys and books, especially sticker books, (these are better brand new!! 😀 ), to bring out when you are feeding the new babe so Leo is distracted for a while. You look fab! Thanks for linking. #bigpinklink

  16. May 9, 2016 / 6:05 pm

Poor you not liking the smell of bacon! I can't get enough of it at the minute. Noo not going to find our the gender, I love the surprise xx

  17. May 9, 2016 / 6:06 pm

Oh no, you went off tea?! I did in the 1st trimester of my pregnancy with Leo but this time around that hasn't happened. Haha, yea it's fun comparing baby size to fruit and veg!xx

  18. May 9, 2016 / 6:07 pm

Aww thank you. Yep, baby flutters are definitely the best bit. I can't wait to feel them again xx

I can't believe you are 20 weeks already!! Yup, I am always hungry..really worried I'm going to put on loads of weight but I just can't stop eating (this is really unlike me!). Hope you and your bump are all good xx

  21. May 9, 2016 / 6:11 pm

It really was such an adorable moment, so glad the midwife was so lovely and played along. Thanks, hopefully blood pressure doesn't go any lower as the dizzy feeling really is horrible xx

  22. May 9, 2016 / 6:13 pm

Thank you Louise :). Such a great tip with the feeding boxes, I've already been stressing about how I'm supposed to breastfeed the baby and entertain Leo when we're out so I will definitely be doing this, thank you!xx

Congratulations Wendy – you have a lovely neat bump! Glad to hear you are feeling much better now.

My eldest was 2 yrs 9mths when his little brother came along and I was so worried about him being jealous. He was (and still is) really good with him and he would help me fetch wipes and nappies and even wipe his bottom! It was so sweet. He was keen to be involved so it was nice to let him help. We also tried to stick to his routine as much as possible which I think really helped.

Best of luck – I can't wait to read the next update.

Thank you for linking up to #KCACOLS and I hope to see you back again on Sunday x

Thanks Lucy. I know the first 12weeks drags so much. How you feeling now? You're only a few weeks ahead of me aren't you? Hope you're good xx

  30. May 11, 2016 / 11:07 am

Thank you! Yes it's great once the sickness goes, can really start enjoying it all now xx

  31. May 11, 2016 / 11:09 am

Thanks Maria. That is a good idea, getting the eldest involved as much as they can be. Leo will be 3 and 2 months so I am hoping he will want to be involved and will have learnt to be gentle by then!!xx

  32. May 11, 2016 / 11:09 am

Thank you 🙂 Yep, getting really excited now xx

Glad to hear it all going well and I am sure it won't be long before you feel those flutters. Think it was about 16-17 weeks with my second. Enjoy the lovely 2nd trimester and the extra energy! #fortheloveofBLOG

Lovely bump update. Glad everything is going well, and you have been feeling better. I had low blood pressure too, and had to be careful about fainting risk. Was particularly bad with dizziness in second pregnancy – had to be careful carrying eldest, who was still a baby too, around! Thank you so much for linking up with us at #PasstheSauce!

Congratulations! 16 weeks of pregnancy – quite a date! Your baby bump is lovely. It’s time to relax for you now and enjoy your pregnancy (for me the second trimester was the most comfortable, but I didn’t feel so good during the first and third). =)
