28 weeks pregnancy update

28 weeks pregnancy update

Here we are again, it feels like I just blinked and suddenly another 4 weeks has passed and it is time for my 28 weeks pregnancy update. I am now 27weeks and 4days but I saw my midwife this morning so I thought I would write my latest update a few days early.

Before I get stuck in with what has been going on with me and my baby bump, here is my gender reveal video in case any of you missed it…

28 weeks pregnancy update

How have I been feeling? – Over the past month I would say I am definitely starting to feel more tired, I am pretty much arriving into the third trimester now and I can already feel my energy levels starting to dip. I don’t seem to be crying as much lately though and seem to be having less moody days – I’m not perfect though and still have the odd grumpy spell every now and then! I am getting really excited about meeting baby now, especially now I know we are having a little boy and Leo keeps talking about his baby brother. I don’t really feel like I have much of a glow this time around, I think ‘exhausted and pale looking’ would be a more accurate description of me lately, rather than ‘glowing’ and ‘radiant’.  I am huge this time and I am starting to get a bit fed of people commenting on the size of my bump and being shocked when I tell them I am not due until October. I know people are just curious and don’t mean to be mean but I am really self conscious of how big I actually am and would prefer strangers not to point this out to me (sorry, grumpy moment!).

28 weeks pregnancy update

Leo sitting on his brother (I guess he should get used to it!) – taken at 26 weeks

Any symptoms? – Yes! I can not stop weeing, I think I could easily run to the loo about 20 times in a day. My bladder has also started to wake me up in the night now which is really frustrating, especially when it has taken me ages to get to sleep. Although it doesn’t hurt at all in the day, when I go to bed at night my back aches so much. I am finding it impossible to get comfortable and have taken to sleeping with a pillow under my bump and between my legs to try and get some much needed belly support. If I roll onto my back in my sleep then I wake up in absolute agony, there have been mornings where I could have burst into sleepy tears the second I have opened my eyes. Either I need to get myself a proper pregnancy pillow or I should build a wall of cushions and pillows between Oli and I so it is impossible for me to roll over in my sleep.

28 weeks pregnancy update

BIG belly! My belly button has popped right out now.

Have I done any shopping/preparation? – Since finding out we are having another little boy I have found myself gravitating towards baby clothes aisles a lot more when we have been out shopping. I have bought our little man a few baby grows and Leo picked out a few dinosaur themed pieces for his little brother. We still have lots to buy, all the essentials, a mosses basket. breast pump, a cot and there is probably loads more I am forgetting. I am being far too chilled out this time around, I need to start buying some stuff soon other wise the poor boy will arrive and we will be completely unprepared.

What food am I loving/hating/craving? – There have been 0 weird cravings during this pregnancy. I am happy to eat most things and I am not experiencing any food aversions or anything like that. I am eating more than my non pregnant self but I am definitely not one of those people who eat for two!

28 weeks pregnancy update

Leo, me and bump at Thomas Land on the weekend

Have I had any appointments? – At about 25 weeks I went for my whooping cough vaccine, I was in and out of the nurses room in less than 2 minutes. Needles freak me out but I put on a brave face as Leo was with me, it wasn’t actually that bad but my arm felt like I had been punched for a couple of days after. Today I saw my midwife for the first time in 12 weeks (why do they leave it so long?!) and I left her office feeling a bit crappy. If you have read my previous pregnancy updates then you will know I have got a low lying placenta. At 32 weeks I have a scan to see if my placenta has moved and if it hasn’t then I will have to be booked in for a c section. I really want a water birth like I did with Leo and am actually terrified of having surgery so I really want the stupid thing to move out of the way. There was an optimistic part of me that thought if at the scan the placenta was still low that it would still have 8 weeks to move. My midwife told me today that if it’s still there at 32weeks then it won’t be budging and I will have no choice but to have a c section. I am so stressed about this, I know she was only being honest but it really wasn’t the answer I wanted. Fingers crossed for me lovely readers that when I have the scan that the pesky placenta has stopped blocking baby’s way out! The midwife also measured my bump today and it is 30cm! I am pretty sure the cm are supposed to correspond with how many weeks you are so my fears of having a giant baby look like they might come true.

Have I felt baby move? – Little man does not move much at all. He kicks in the morning and at night when I am lying down but I barely feel him any other time throughout the day. The midwife said today he is in a sort of breech position at the minute, with his head on  one side of my bump and his feet on the other with his body curved around the bottom of my belly. I am wondering if this weird position is the reason why I don’t feel him much or if he is just a lazy baby? I have been told to keep a mental note on his movements and not to worry too much as this may just be the movement pattern he is sticking to. If I don’t feel him move during his usual times I have been told to go straight to the day assessment unit at the hospital. Little man’s heart beat was strong and healthy today so I am not too concerned, maybe he is just enjoying being a lazy boy.

28 weeks pregnancy update

There is no hiding that belly button any more!

What is happening with bump? – At 28 weeks baby is approximately 38cm long, weighs about 2.5 lbs already and is about the size of an aubergine. Baby boy’s eye sight has developed  enough now to be able to see his mummy’s face during feeding and he is completely formed, he just needs to fatten up now.

That’s it for this months pregnancy update, if you want to read my previous bump posts they can all be found on the pregnancy section of my blog. I also vlog about my pregnancy over on my youtube channel if you fancy having a watch, if you like my videos I would love for you to subscribe :).

I will be back again at 32 weeks when I have had my scan and will know whether my dream of a water birth is still possible.

Are you pregnant too? How is your pregnancy going? Has anyone had a c section? If you have can you please let me know your experiences, good and bad. Let me know in the comments 🙂

Congratulations on your pregnancy – fingers crossed for you with the whole placenta issue! It is frustrating when things don’t go according to plan, but I’m sure they will take good care of you, whatever happens.

Aww a boy! Didn’t see this! Congrats. I hear you with the tiredness. At 31 weeks today I am feeling it more. My daughter is next door with a friend so the break is lovely. Have you got a memory foam mattress or topper? I find I am so comfy with that and no need for a special pillow. The wees do my head in too! Fingers crossed that placenta moves for you and little man does, so you get lots of kicks. Third trimester now!! Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst x

Ah, two boys! How lovely…having same sex siblings is great for a load of reasons which I am sure you have already thought about…
You look wonderful – pregnancy is so different second time around isn’t it. There’s little time for rest and relaxation! You’re a pro though – enjoy your last 12 weeks!

I have same sex siblings too – two girls for me! My sister had a low lying placenta at 25 weeks & was told the same, but it had cleared the distance it needed to move by at 32 weeks & she had a normal birth (she was most upset as she WANTED a section, but that’s another story!). It was still low and close to cervix comparatively, but it moved enough & doctor said the risks were no higher than for anyone else at that point. #coolmumclub
