36 weeks pregnancy update

36 weeks pregnancy update

Somehow I now find myself 36 weeks pregnant. There is just under a month to go until baby boy’s due date and suddenly everything is starting to feel very very real. Lots has gone on since I wrote my last pregnancy update at 32 weeks, I really can’t believe 4 weeks have flown by already.

36 weeks pregnancy update.

36 weeks

Leo cuddling his baby brother, he can be so adorable sometimes.

How have I been feeling? – A bit up and down really. I am starting to feel really tired now and this is frustrating me quite a bit. I want to be able to do the things I would usually do with Leo but I am just too tired. I feel really guilty sometimes as I feel like he’s missing out on his mummy but I know over doing things would make everything much worse. I can just about manage a waddle around the park with him but my days of lifting him up on the climbing frames and whizzing down the slide have had to be put on hold! I am starting to get nervous about labour now and just the fact that I only have 4 weeks left of proper sleep! I am really excited though, I can’t wait to meet this little man now and to finally introduce Leo to ‘the baby in mummy’s tummy’. I am nowhere near prepared but things are getting there slowly, please don’t ask me if I’ve packed my hospital bag..

Bump at 33 weeks

Any symptoms? – After the iron tablet fiasco of last month I am actually feeling a lot better now. I haven’t had any more sickness/bad stomach spells and I don’t feel dizzy half as much as I was doing. It is just the effort of walking around with what feels like a boulder strapped to my front that is draining me of my energy and making me want to curl up in bed by about 4pm every day. Sleep is a lot better this week though after Oli and my Dad got me a breastfeeding pillow that fits perfectly under my bump. There is a wall of pillows between Oli and I so I am completely wedged in at bedtime now and can’t roll onto my back – sleeping on my back was causing me a lot of pain. Apart from a bit of pelvic pain if I walk around too much and constantly needing to wee, I haven’t really been battling many other symptoms this month. Well, unless you count the crazy pregnancy hormones of course!

Have I done any shopping/preparation? – Baby’s bedroom is nearly done, I just need to finish knitting him a blanket and I am going to attempt to make a couple of cushions for the sofa that’s in there. Although it’s all painted and the furniture is in it still needs a few finishing touches, I need to get some wall art I think and a few teddies to scatter about the place. I have finally dared a trip up into the attic and got all of Leo’s old baby clothes down. All his 0-3 clothes have been washed and put away and I got quite emotional doing this job! I can’t believe my boy was once so tiny and in a few weeks time I will be welcoming another tiny human into my life, I can’t stop thinking if he will look like Leo or not. Again, please don’t ask me about my hospital bag..

36 weeks

The day I realised my bump is about the same size now as it was when I was 8days over due with Leo!

What food am I loving/hating/craving? – Ahh I am really failing when it comes to healthy eating at the minute. I am really trying to be good but all I want to eat is sweet things. Normally my will power is pretty good but at the minute the only food I want to eat is anything that is sweet and, ideally, smothered in chocolate. I seem to do well for most of the day and then once Leo is in bed I just want to sit on the sofa and scoff loads of naughty food. I hope baby will forgive me for all the sugar and I know I will pack in the unhealthy eating once he’s here – I have never eaten healthier than when I was breastfeeding Leo. My current favourite food seems to be a massive bowl of Coco Pops at around 8pm every night, I know so bad!

Have I had any appointments? – Yes, in the last 4 weeks I have had a scan with the consultant and I have also had a regular antenatal check up with the midwife. At my 34 week midwife appointment all was well with baby, he is tucked up really tight in there apparently and he’s got his head down nice and low already (that might explain the waddle!). He was measuring perfectly for 34 weeks and his heartbeat was sounding good and strong. Even though I feel him move and stuff now I always breathe a sigh of relief when the whooshing sound echoes around the room when his heartbeat is found. I will be seeing the midwife again on Monday as she wants us to create a birth plan. I am not bothered either way as I know labour can easily not go to plan but I guess it won’t hurt to have written down what I would like to happen in a ‘perfect labour’ scenario. I saw the consultant for a scan at 35 weeks to finally find out what is going on with my placenta and, as if by some miracle, it has moved! Not only has it moved but it has gone from lying across the birth canal on the left side to lying from top down on my right side! The consultant said baby must have grown a lot in those 3 short weeks and forced my womb to grow more resulting in the placenta being pulled right up out of the danger zone. I am so relieved and I finally feel like I can start mentally preparing for labour now. I am  still really hoping for my water birth and the only thing stopping me now is someone else being in the pool! We also got a picture of the profile of baby’s face and an image of his heart with the graph tracing of his heartbeat which was nice as I wasn’t expecting a photo.

Me and bump in his bedroom today at 36weeks. I can not wait to bring him home and show him his very first bedroom.

Have I felt baby move? – Baby is still sticking to his lazy pattern of barely moving all day and then going mad in the evenings. He is barely kicking at all now and is just stretching all over the place, sometimes my belly looks like a perfect letter ‘m’ , it’s so weird! I am always trying to keep a note of his movements, which can be hard when I am busy with Leo, as I know babies should move right up until the day they are born despite people saying they run out of room to move by the end. I’m on strict instructions from the midwife to phone the day assessment unit if I don’t feel his regular movements.

What’s going on with bump? – My most recent scan report tells me that baby is now weighing approximately 4lb 15oz! With still 4 weeks to go I am going to guess he will weigh nearly 9lb at birth and Oli thinks 8lb 7oz , have you got any guesses? The graphs are saying his legs are long, his head is on the smaller side (yes!) and the consultant said all is looking as it should. I can’t wait to find out what he’s going to be like, an ultrasound picture and dots plotted on a graph can only tell you so much.

So that’s it for this pregnancy update. I have been writing one every 4 weeks and in 4 weeks time it will be my due date! I am not expecting this boy to be early so I will most likely be back in a month with my 40 weeks pregnancy update. See you then and if I don’t you know it’s because something life changing has happened.

Are you pregnant too? How’s your pregnancy going? Anyone got any tips for me about coping in the early days with a newborn and a toddler? I would to hear your thoughts and advice.

Aw really not long to go now! My second birth was a whole lot different to my first, a lot quicker and I recovered a lot faster so I hope it’s the same for you 🙂

How exciting! I’m currently pregnant with baby #2, only 18 weeks but I can’t wait for baby to arrive. This pregnancy has been SO much worse this time around, I have a 4 year old daughter who will be a month off her 5th birthday when baby arrives end of Feb and I have a feeling that this baby will be a boy! #picknmix

I totally get what you mean about the not having time with the child you already have. I was so tired during my second pregnancy that I could have easily slept all day every day, it’s hard work and you really do get a lot of mummy guilt but it doesn’t last forever. My youngest is 1 next week (I don’t even know how that happened!) then it’s my eldest birthday the week after (he will be 3!) Time goes too fast so just enjoy the little moments 🙂 Good luck!! #picknmix

Eek not long to go. I remember the weird mix of excitement and nerves. Great that the iron tablets have worked and that the placenta has moved! Good luck! Thanks for linking to #picknkix
