So the Great British Summer is here (apparently) and it is pretty clear that there is no way I am squeezing my ever expanding baby bump into any of last years summery outfits. All the pretty vests tops, little dresses and those high waist shorts I wore to death last year will be staying hidden away in the deep dark depths of my wardrobe this summer – and don’t even get me started on all my bikinis *sob*. Although I am a bit sad I can’t fit into these clothes anymore, I am overjoyed to have a baby growing in my belly and what a great excuse to go shopping for a whole new wardrobe. Finding nice maternity clothes can be a bit of a challenge as sometimes they just look a bit frumpy but I have found some really lovely outfits in the Dorothy Perkins sale perfect for the – hopefully! – warmer Summer months.
My Summer 2016 maternity wardrobe wishlist.
I love this navy tunic. It is perfect for wearing to a family picnic on a sunny day and on cooler evenings it can be teamed up with a pair of leggings. As well as looking fab, you can tie the tunic as loose or tight as you want and there are stretchy, pleated sides for extra comfort. £15
I love anything stripey so as soon as I saw this khaki striped tunic I knew it would be going on my wishlist. There is something about stripes that make a pregnant belly look really cute and this tunic would look great worn on a casual day out. You could also dress it up with accessories and pretty shoes for a night out with friends, sat in a beer garden sipping a cold OJ while everyone else gets stuck into the prosecco! £13.50
Even when you are pregnant, a little black dress can still be your best friend. This pretty pinny dress is made of lots of stretchy material so it fits comfortably over your bump and, as is the case with a black dress, can be worn for all kinds of occasions. The short sleeves and length will help keep you cool on those days where the sun actually decides to come out. £16.50
So often maternity tops are just plain colours and a bit dull but this cobalt lace vest top shows that your clothes don’t have to be boring just because you have a bun in the oven. The lace effect front and the sparkly neck detail make this top perfect for evenings out with friends, a family bbq or just for adding a bit of glamour to your day to day life. £12
This longline tassel cardigan is not from the maternity range but as it has no zip or buttons there is no reason why you can’t wear it if you’re sporting a baby bump. The short sleeves make it a perfect way of layering up your outfit on a warm day without getting too hot and the tassel detail around the bottom is bang on trend. No matter how big your belly gets this cardi isn’t going to stretch or be uncomfortable to wear – result! £12
This navy and grey long t shirt is really cute and is the perfect length to wear with jeans or leggings for those summer days that aren’t quite summery enough for you to brave getting your legs out. The sides are ruched, as is common in maternity tops, which means the top will continue to stretch and fit nicely over your bump throughout your whole pregnancy. £10.50
Speaking of not wanting to get your legs out, every pregnant mama needs at least one pair of maternity jeans. I love these black skinny jeans as the stretchy bit around the middle goes under your belly. Maternity jeans can be horrible to wear on a hot day as most have a big bit of stretchy material that covers the whole of your bump, it is like wearing like a whole extra layer of clothing, not ideal of for an already too hot mum to be on a warm day. With these jeans that problem does not exist and you can team them with any top you fancy, they are black so will go with anything after all. £19.50
I think that is probably a long enough list for now, I don’t want to break the bank as I still have lots of baby essentials to buy. I am really excited to go shopping and start creating my maternity summer wardrobe, I could spend hours browsing the Dorothy Perkins sale alone, never mind any other shops as well. It is good to know that although I may be miles away from my 2015 summer body, there are still lots of pretty fashionable clothes around for me to dress my bump in this year.
Are you pregnant too? How are you planning on dressing your bump for the summer months? Would you wear any of these maternity clothes? Does anyone else get really hot during pregnancy or is that just me? I would love to know what you think of my wishlist.

These are lovely, I especially love the first shirt. I got a fab maxi dress from Seraphine last year that I still wear even though bubs is nearly 1 ;)#fortheloveofBLOG

Yes I love the first one too and I’m sure it could be worn once baby arrives too. Ohh you can’t go wrong with a maxi dress 🙂 xx
I don’t have a bump (and won’t have one again in the future) but loved looking at this so I can share some of your ideas with preggers mates. Love the tassled long waistcoat. It’s all about finding clothes you can wear after you’ve had baby too. #fortheloveofBLOG

You’re so right, it is annoying buying clothes that will only fit for a short time. Aww thank you, I hope your pregnant friends find it useful 🙂 xx
I love the stripy dress – I was due in December with my daughter so didn’t have much in the way of a bump in the warmer month, I tended just to wear my normal clothes and a bump band which I found so comfy I wish I could still wear them now haha #KCACOLS

How have I not heard of a bump band before, what is it? With Leo I was due in August so the summer months were horrible, hopefully this time around it won’t be so hard! Ohh a December baby would be lovely, the extra warmth from being pregnant would be very useful in the winter I imagine 🙂 xx
I love your wish list. I always got very hot during my pregnancies which was okay in the winter but it was awful in the summer. I just used to fill up the tub with cold water and just lie there in it. Visiting from #KCACOLS

Oh I know what you mean, I feel so hot all the time..especially at night when I’m trying to sleep. Ohh I haven’t sat in a bath of cold water though..yet!!xx
Ooo this is really useful! I didn’t realise Dorothy Perkins do maternity clothes. I am Iiving in harem pants and vests with the odd dress thrown in but I may take a little gander over to their site! I like the stripes particularly #KCACOLS

They have loads, way more than I was expecting actually. I love the stripe one too, it comes in 3 different colours as well. I neeed to buy some harem pants, getting a bit sick of alternating between leggings and my 2 pair of mat jeans.xx
There are some lovely pieces here! I felt like I wore the same three dresses all through the bulk of my pregnancy – I couldn’t wait to throw them out after Marianna arrived! #KCACOLS

Haha, with Leo I felt the same, I only had about 3 pretty things to wear! It’s so hard finding decent maternity clothes xx
I love the stripped dress that looks super cute and comfy! I was lucky to be expecting in the spring and winter so no summer heat to endure. I am sure you will figure out a way to deal with the heat. cool showers, beach days and shade are all great ideas. Enjoy! It flies by so fast. #KCACOLS.

Stripes on a baby bump just looks adorable doesn’t it? I love the H&m maternity stuff too, I got some really comfy jeans from there the other week xx
Maternity clothing can be so difficult to find, especially clothes that are fashionable and suit your style. It looks like DP’s has come up trumps with its range which looks fantastic, I love the style of dresses they offer which are perfect for a range of occasions. Under the bump maternity jeans are brilliant, I remember I lived in mine to the point where my thighs rubbing together rubbed a hole in the jeans. I bought key pieces of maternity clothing that I could mix and match to avoid having to buy loads of separate pieces. Hope you manage to get your wishlist, and thanks so much for linking up this week at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x

Oh wow, you must have worn them loads! Yes I am really impressed with the Dorothy Perkins range and I agree you just need a few key pieces, no point spending loads of money on clothes that aren’t going to fit for long. Thanks for hosting xx
Ooooo some absolutely gorgeous things there. I found it lovely dressing for maternity as its the most comfortable I have ever been in my own body… and I was finally able to wear horizontal stripes because I was meant to be fat!! Amazing
