Baker Days letterbox cake review

Baker Days letterbox cake review

Very rarely do I get excited by something I have received via my home’s letterbox. Bills? Yay, another thing to worry about. Junk mail? I don’t care that you have the best double glazed windows for sale in town, please leave me alone. An appointment for a lady check up at the doctors? Important, yes. Exciting? Not so much.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I get nice packages through the post when I have been on an online shopping spree but more often than not I end up missing the delivery and having to reschedule or take a trip to the post office to pick it up. So, when Baker Days, the personalised celebration cake specialists, asked if I wanted to receive a cake through my letterbox I couldn’t write back and say yes quick enough. Who wouldn’t want a cake sat waiting for them when they went to grab the post in the morning?

Baker Days letterbox cake review

Baker Days offer an amazing selection of cakes, there is a cake on their website for every occasion you can think of. As there were no birthdays or anything coming up I decided to go for a completely personalised letterbox cake and give it to Leo as a little treat. I chose this template with the star design around the edge of the cake, I found this template in the Design your own cake section. I uploaded a photo of Leo’s face to use the image for the cake and added the text ‘To Leo, you’re a star! Love you lots’. This was all really quick and easy to do, the only difficult part was deciding on what picture of Leo to use. A preview of the cake appears before you place your order so you can make sure you are 100% happy with it before heading to the check out.

The team at Baker Days are a lovely lot.

There are a selection of different cakes you can go for when buying your letterbox cake: vanilla sponge, chocolate chip, fruit and gluten/dairy free cakes are also available. Leo takes after me and is a massive chocoholic so I got him the chocolate chip cake,

It only took a couple of days for the cake to come flying through our letterbox but if you order yours before 2pm, Baker Days will get your cake delivered the very next day! I think a letterbox cake would make a really great gift for any special occasion. The personalised messages show you have given the gift some loving thought and the fact that in fits perfectly through a letterbox means you don’t need to worry about the recipient missing the delivery and not getting their yummy present on time.

The cake also comes with 2 candles, a horn and 3 balloons, it’s a little party in a box.
Love this tin.

Back to the cake itself, Leo loved it! The first thing I thought when I opened the box was that the cake smelt absolutely amazing. I could smell the chocolate through the packaging and the adorable little tin that the cake was placed in. I was so pleased with how the photo of Leo came out on the icing, it was crystal clear and not blurred at all. The text was also easy to read and the star pattern around the edge really gave the cake that extra wow factor. The cake was not damaged at all despite it’s journey from Baker Days HQ to my hallway floor and it looked almost too good to eat. Leo, of course, had no problem eating it and couldn’t wait to dig in.

My gorgeous boy..on a cake!
The letterbox cake is so cute (nothing to do with Leo’s face on there, honest).
Pretty star design.
It didn’t take long to eat!

As predicted, Leo inhaled his first piece and was asking for another while still chewing his last mouthful. I managed to get a taste too and it was soo good. The chocolate was gorgeous and the icing tasted good, I don’t normally eat icing but I wasn’t missing the opportunity to eat some of Leo’s totally scrumptious face! The 5 inch, letterbox cakes stay fresh for up to 14 days, so even if your cakes recipient has popped away for a day or two, their cake will still be tasting great when they find it waiting with a pile of post when they return.

You can get yourself a letterbox cake for only £14.99 and I would say it is definitely worth every penny. It makes a lovely unique gift, a nice little treat for yourself or a great addition to any kind of party. Make sure you are tight when it comes to portion sizes otherwise the cake can easily be all gone in one go, especially if you are a bit of a cake addict (like me!). Cakes can be ordered from Baker Days 6 days a week and it you don’t fancy a letterbox cake, you can get anything from cupcakes to a large 12 inch cake from the same website.

If you would like to know even more about what Leo and I thought of the letterbox cake or just want to see some general toddler/chocolatey/balloony vlogging chaos then check out this little video we made.

You can check out the Baker Days website here and you can also find them on Twitter and Facebook.

What do you think of the letterbox cake? Would you be happy to receive it as a gift or send one as a present yourself? I would love to know what you think.
