FUM – children’s book review

FUM – children’s book review

Ever since he was a baby Leo has loved books and his love for stories has just continued to grow and grow as he has got older. My boy is such a bookworm and I love it, it is one of the things he has inherited from his Mummy. As I am a Boolino Friend I get sent fabulous children’s books to review and Leo gets so excited every time a book is delivered from Mummy’s ‘work’. Recently we received a wonderful book called FUM, here is what I (and more importantly Leo) thought of this fairy tale with a twist.

FUM – children’s book review

Book title: FUM
Author: Karl Newson
Illustrator: Lucy Fleming
Publication date: March 28th 2017

There’s Fee and Fi and Fo and..Fum? Has anyone seen the smallest Crumb?

FUM is a story all about the Crumb’s , a family of giants who have somehow managed to lose sight of Fum, the smallest member of the family. FUM is not just a tale of a family of giants on a mission to find little Fum, no, Newson has made the story extra exciting by bringing in loads of well known fairy tale characters too.

Leo loved seeing some of his story time favourites popping up in FUM, there are the three little pigs, the big bad wolf and Little Red Riding Hood to name just a few. As the Crumb family search through the forest for Fum they are met by all these familiar faces all of which try to help them find the smallest Crumb.

I love how this book is written. The quest to find Fum is delivered through fun and catchy rhyme and with so many characters involved it gives us parents a chance to put on our best funny voices. Leo loves it when my husband puts on an old man voice for Grandpa Plum and  snorts like a pig when the three little pigs show up.

The pictures in this book are perfect for igniting your child’s imagination and helping them follow along with the story, Leo is particularly fascinated by Daddy Crumb’s moustache and also likes seeing how little all the other characters look compared to the giants. There are pictures on every page and they really are very eye catching and portray what is going on in the story perfectly.

FUM is a fun modern fairy tale with sprinklings of the old favourites added to create an exciting new story that, at the same time, feels like one of the classics. Leo loves FUM, we read it most days and it is often pulled down from the bookcase at bedtime too. If you have a child who loves fairy tales, giants and enjoys an adventure then I am sure they will love FUM , it is also a good read for the grown ups too!

Does your little one enjoy books? What are your favourite fairy tales to read with your child? I would love to know what you think of FUM.

Sounds like a great story book. I still read the classics with my little girl. We have a collection of Grimms fairy tales. We love reading those. #KCACOLS

We all love reading and the kids are no exception. I’m always on the lookout for new books for them (so we’re not reading the same favourites over & over) and this looks fab! THanks for linking up to #MarvMondays. Kaye xo

Sounds wonderful. My children love to read but of course have their firm favourites. Funnily enough one of their favourites is a book from absolutely years ago, The Baby Catalogue and it doesn’t even have words or a story but they love to chat about the pictures and pick out their favourite parts. Julia Donaldson are always a success too.

My daughters latest saying is ‘Fee, Fi, Fo, Fun’ so this book sounds perfect for her! She’s a proper littl bookworm too and I think books that have little meanings of interest to her are great 🙂
Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday
