Get your face on a cake – Caketoppers photo cupcake review

When it comes to cake, I am a little bit obsessed. I love the stuff. If it wasn’t frowned upon I could easily have cake for breakfast and when people respond to the question ‘do you want a piece of cake?’ with ‘OK but just a slither’ I think they’ve got issues. Who in their right mind would just want a slither of the good stuff? You are probably wondering why I am going on about cake, well it’s because recently I got to try out some amazing cupcakes from Caketoppers and these cakes were extra special as they were decorated with photos of my family.

Caketoppers photo cupcake review.

Caketoppers are a cake company who specialise in creating beautiful cakes topped with personalised fondant icing. You can buy various amounts of cupcakes or purchase a full sized cake that can be delivered to you the very next day. As well as personalising your cake with a photograph you could add personal text to a selection of cakes with ready designed icing such as this Elsa cake or these Mickey Mouse cupcakes.

Caketoppers sent me two cupcakes with a different photograph on each one. I thought about getting my blog logo printed onto the icing but I thought it would be a bit boring and wouldn’t really show me how well Caketoppers could actually print a photograph of people on to icing. In the end I chose a picture of Alex and Leo and one of Me, Oli and Leo in the woods. The latter was a very detailed picture with trees, leaves and a bridge as well as the three of us in it. I was very curious to see how good the picture quality would be once the photos were printed onto the icing.

When the cakes arrived the next day the first thing I noticed was that they smelled amazing, I had to be a good blogger and be patient though as they needed photographing before I could eat them – it wasn’t easy resisting them while snapping away, I have to be honest! Not only did the cakes smell amazing but the photographs on the icing came out really well. I was very impressed with the quality of the personalised icing, the picture of Alex and Leo was very clear and the one of us 3 in the woods was slightly pixelated but I had actually expected it to look at lot worse considering the detailed photograph.

My two boys, good enough to eat.

A lovely family walk captured on a cake – photo does not do the icing justice.

How did they taste?

I received one classic sponge cupcake topped with fondant icing and a chocolate cupcake with chocolate fondant icing, both beautifully presented in gold and silver foil cake cases. I decided to be a nice mummy and let Leo join in with the taste test and not just hide my face in the fridge and eat both cakes myself. Leo loved the chocolate cupcake, he demolished it in seconds with a big smile on his face. Unfortunately my boy is not a fan of fondant icing so the photographed icing ended up spat out on his plate! Don’t let Leo’s reaction to the icing put you off though, Oli and I halved the sponge cupcake and we both enjoyed the fluffy yumminess of the cake and the fondant icing. The cupcakes tasted as good as they smelt when I first opened the box and it was really fun to have our faces printed on them too.

I managed to get a photo before Leo ate his cake pretty much in one go!

SO yummy.

If you need a cake or cupcakes for a special occasion and fancy something a bit more personal and unique then I would recommend you check out Caketoppers. The cupcakes look impressive and taste amazing, they’d be perfect for a birthday or you could get your business logo printed on to the icing and have cupcakes at your next big event.

To see Caketoppers full range of cakes, icing and personalising options just head on over to their website. I loved reviewing these cakes and, being a cake addict, I didn’t find munching on icing with the smiling faces of my darling children on it the slightest bit weird at all!
