A walk in the rain with my new Lighthouse coat

A walk in the rain with my new Lighthouse coat

It is that time of year again. The hot days and warm evenings of summer are becoming a distant memory as the evenings become shorter, darker and much much colder. Flip flops have been swapped for boots and sun dresses are now hibernating in the wardrobe while we all don our chunky knit jumpers instead. Although I don’t relish this cold weather, I do love autumn time. With all the fallen leaves turning the outdoors into a beautiful place bursting with colour, autumn is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy some fresh air. My family and I love going for walks in the woods whatever the weather but I am always the one left soaked after our adventures as I never have a decent rain coat. This year though things are about to change, no longer will I be the one with a sopping wet jacket and ringing my hair out after getting drenched in the rain and this is all thanks to Lighthouse.

Lighthouse waterproof jacket review.

I have struggled my whole life with coats. They have always been something I have owned due to necessity rather than want. As for rain coats? Well, I can honestly say I have not owned anything waterproof since I was a child, when my parents would have made me wear made them. Sounds ridiculous I know as I lived the first 24 years of my life in Wales, a country cursed by torrential rain pretty much all year round, but I always found rain coats unattractive and there was always something else in the shop I’d rather spend my money on.

When Lighthouse got in touch asking if I’d like to review something from their autumn/winter range I was dubious to say the least. What could they possibly have in stock that could change my opinion of rain coats? I needn’t have worried, the Lighthouse AW16 range is full of gorgeous coats and jackets.  The Siena waterproof with fern leaf print immediately caught my eye and for the first time ever I had found a coat I just had to have.

I love the colours on this jacket.

As well as looking amazing with it’s bright blue waterproof and windproof fabric with a hand drawn fern pattern, the Siena waterproof is also breathable and fits like a dream. There is a zip and buttons to keep you extra snug and the cotton rich chambray lining helps to keep you toasty and warm on the coldest of days.

I have been wearing my jacket pretty much every day and I love it. It brightens up whatever outfit I’m wearing as well as being the most practical item of clothing I’ve ever owned. A recent trip to London Zoo put my new coat’s waterproof abilities to the test as it rained all day! After wandering around the zoo for a whole afternoon in the pouring rain I was still completely dry. The big hood protected my hair from the downpour and not a single raindrop managed to make it’s way through that fabric onto my clothes underneath.

No rain is getting past this hood!

As a mum I am constantly being handed all sorts of thing’s to ‘look after for a minute’ and to ‘hold this while I play’ , rather than stand there with sticks and toys in each hand I can easily store all of my son’s wonderful ‘treasures’ in the 5 pockets found on my new jacket.

The clocks will eventually be wound forward, Spring will come and I will hang my new love on a coat rack for a few fleeting months. When Autumn winds it way to us again next year I won’t shudder when I see those grey clouds appear, I won’t worry about my adventuring son needing to go out for a ‘welly walk’ as I will be able to grab my rain coat and get out splashing with him!

LightHouse Style

It looks good and it’s also a practical coat for mums!

As well as the Siena water proof, LightHouse have a great range of outdoor clothes for women, men and the kids too.  To see their new Autumn/Winter Collection just follow this link.

Have you heard of LightHouse? If not will you be checking our their fab outdoor clothing range now? I love my new raincoat and I’m excited to wear it again on our next family walk in the woods.

Came across your blog via #MarvMondays link up. It’s my first time participating and already found new blogs to read. I do love a good jacket and am currently on the market for one big enough to house my 8.5 month old babywearing Son (off to Lighthouse website) Thanks for sharing xx

I’ve seen several of you lovely blogging ladies review these coats and now I really want one. I always struggle with coats as I’m 6ft and have long arms so sleeves usually come up short. I’ll have to get in touch with them and see if they might work!

The one you picked looks fab btw!

I have a old Joules waterproof coat that has seen better days, it’s really thin as well so I have been looking at something abit warmer. This Lighthouse one is gorgeous and definitely fits the bill.

Haha, I really should invest in a good waterproof coat, seeing as I’m still here in soggy Wales! Yours looks lovely, really love the colour of it. x

That coat looks lovely! I’m the same Wendy, I’ve never had a rain coat since I was a child. My girl and my boys play football and I usually spend my time on a field somewhere, cold! I absolutely adore that coat and I hadn’t heard of lighthouse before but I will certainly be checking them out!
