Nappy changing on the go made easy with Sondrew portable change station

It is no secret that when you have a baby that suddenly leaving the house becomes a major operation. The urge to take out everything but the kitchen sink becomes very real, leaving the house with only one change of clothes for the baby is seen as some kind of madness. Well, yes, you can no longer just nip out with only your purse, keys and phone but you can get away with just packing the essentials in your nappy changing bag; your baby will not go through 10 outfits in a day and a whole packet of nappies, honest. Nappy changing on the go can be difficult at times, not all public places have nappy changing facilities and sometimes baby change rooms can be a bit grim anyway. One thing you must have in your change bag if you want to be able to change your baby in comfort wherever you go is a travel change mat. Recently I was asked by Sondrew to review their portable change station, it is the perfect baby product for us parents who don’t want to carry the whole house out with us but want to still be able to have everything we could possibly need to deal with our baby’s nappy needs. Here is what we thought.

Sondrew portable change station review

If you follow me on Instagram or read my blog often then you will know my family and I really enjoy getting out and about and exploring the great outdoors. The weather has been lovely recently so I have been taking the boys out for lots of walks and picnics in the park. The only thing about going for long strolls in the woods or on the beech is that very rarely is there a toilet or baby change room when you need it. I decided to take the Sondrew portable change station with us on a recent walk and picnic so I didn’t have to change Alex on the floor and I have to say I am so impressed with it.

The change bag is really compact but it is surprising how much you can fit inside. There are 3 pockets (2 inside and 1 on the front) as well as the travel change mat being neatly zipped up inside the bag. I managed to fit everything I needed for Alex for our walk and a picnic inside the bag and there was room for more.

I packed:

  • 3 nappies
  • 1 packet of Water Wipes
  • 1 pouch of Ella’s Kitchen baby food
  • 1 baby spoon
  • A muslin square
  • A spare change of clothes (dungarees, a vest and socks)
  • My phone
  • Purse

I was really pleased with how much I managed to fit in the bag and there was room for a couple more nappies in there too and maybe even another pouch of food if I had needed it. I have packed this bag a few times now and the more you pack in the more difficult it is to roll back up and fasten the buckle but for nappy changing on the go it is perfect, so far I have always been able to fit in everything I need.

Something else I love about this bag is the buckle straps on the side. These straps are perfect for fastening your change station to your buggy, great for shopping trips where you may need your prams basket space to put all your shopping bags. Having the bag easily accessible on the pram handles save me lots of time I would usually waste routing around under the pram trying to find wipes and my purse. I have also been making a habit of hanging the bag off Alex’s play pen at home so I always know where I can find a nappy and some wipes; I am not the most organised person and have been known to spend ages searching all the rooms in my house looking for a packet of wipes.

The travel change mat itself in a really good size considering it folds up as part of the bag. The mat is slightly cushioned so it is comfortable for Alex to lie on and is waterproof and easy to wipe down. Alex is 7 months old and he does look quite big on the mat now, I would ideally have liked it to be a little bigger but it fits fine under his head, back and bum and he tends to stick his legs up in the air when he’s being changed anyway so it isn’t really a big deal that it isn’t really long. For newborns and small babies there will be plenty of room for them to lay down on this mat. I am very impressed with quality of the change mat and if you wanted to just take that out with you and not the whole change system then it can be unzipped from the bag easily.

If you wanted to you could pack this change system into your bigger nappy changing bag, that way you will still have everything you need in one place but have some added space if you needed it – I do this sometimes when I have to take extra stuff out when I have Leo with me too. I love the monochrome pattern on the bag though and do think it looks pretty stylish hanging off my pram, I try not to hide it away in a bigger bag too often.

For nappy changing on the go and for keeping all your essential baby change products in one place I think the Sondrew portable change system is perfect. I love that I can just grab, stick it on the pram and when it comes to dealing with a nappy situation I know I have everything I need all packed away and easy to find in this cute little bag. The quality of all the material is great, the buckles are strong and, though it is small, you can fit everything in that you need for your day out.

If you like the look of the Sondrew portable change station you can buy it from the Sondrew website for £13.99.

What do you think of this portable change system? Would you use it or do you prefer a larger nappy change bag? I would love to hear your thoughts.

I had something similar to this and it was very handy especially when caught somewhere with poor facilities. Thank you for linking up to #ablogginggoodtime

that looks like a great bag you could use after the nappy changing has finished, my last beach bag was a baby changing bag as it had all the pockets needed for sun creams, drinks, towels etc. Once you’ve had a baby changing bag it’s almost impossible to ever go out with a small bag again. Love the name of your blog btw
