Wilde Like Me – book review

Wilde Like Me – book review

Have you ever been sat reading a book and wished you could climb inside the pages, say hello to all the characters and live out their story with them? That’s exactly how I felt reading Wilde Like Me by Louise Pentland.

Wilde Like Me – book review

Wilde Like Me is a story about Robin Wilde, a single Mum in her twenties who is just muddling through life. Robin has a six year old daughter, Lyla, and has struggled with loneliness and depression (The Emptiness) since her husband left her for a eccentric hippy type four years ago. Robin is fed up at the beginning of the book (understandably!), Lyla has started a new posh school and Robin is struggling to connect with any of the school mums. Robin is not feeling fulfilled in her make up artist career and she desperately wants a man to spend her long lonely evenings with and to create the family unit she’s longed for for years. Robin does meet a man, but will he really be the answer to all her problems? Or will a surprise development at work push Robin to challenge herself and realise perhaps life can be good again after all?

I loved Wilde Like Me, I couldn’t put it down. I fell in love with Robin almost immediately, I love how she seems like such a normal, fun, hilarious, feisty and lovely girl. If Robin Wilde were real, I’d happily go and chat to her at the school gates and maybe ask her round for a cuppa and packet or two of custard creams. The book deals with so many issues that all mums experience, single parent or not, such as: Mum guilt, comparing ourselves to others, feeling inadequate as a mother, self doubt, confidence issues and so much more. I’m not a single parent but I could relate to so many of the thoughts and feelings Robin has throughout the book and I think every Mum reading it will feel this way too. There were times in the book where I was worried Robin was going to make the wrong decisions, that she was going to let her self doubt and sometimes low self esteem get to her. Towards the end I began to feel worried things weren’t going to go the way I wanted them to for Robin but (spoiler but not a big spoiler) things actually went exactly the way I hoped they would.

Wilde Like Me is such a brilliant read, Louise deals with so many issues facing modern mothers and Robin Wilde is just so lovely, you’ll definitely finish the book wishing that she could be your BFF too. Wilde Like Me would make a perfect summer holiday read, sit back on your sun lounger with a yummy cocktail (Robin would be having one with gummy sharks floating in it for sure!) and enjoy escaping into the chaotic but totally wonderful life of Robin Wilde, her daughter Lyla and all their lovely friends who join them along the way.

Have you read Wilde Like Me? What did you think of it? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Great review. I can’t remember the last book I read, just don’t seem to have the time these days but I really should try. This one sounds good
