Today’s guest post is one for the mums-to-be. I remember when I was pregnant, I found it really hard to keep track of what was and wasn’t allowed! You want to spend this time getting ready for your new baby, not constantly searching what you can and can’t eat. This guest post shares five things that you will need to cut out when pregnant.
When you get pregnant, life has to change. There are some sacrifices that need to be made in order to cater to this new bundle of joy, you’re likely to receive within the next nine months. One of those sacrifices comes with being pregnant. Unlike before, there are some things that you won’t be able to enjoy due to the potential harm that they could cause to your unborn child.
With that in mind, here are five things to cut out when you find yourself newly pregnant.
Smoking
Smoking is the first thing that should be cut out when pregnant if it’s applicable to yourself or others around you that would be in close proximity. Even with second-hand smoking, it could do some significant damage to the child’s health.
As an alternative in the lead-up to getting pregnant, and if planned, of course, it may be worth trying vaping to transition to a non-smoking state. A brand like Vape Locker is a great example of how enjoyable vaping can be and how it can help to quit smoking in time for pregnancy.
Alcohol
Alcohol is one of those important things to cut out of a person’s lifestyle when it comes to getting pregnant. With alcohol, it’s just as dangerous as smoking and can have a direct impact on the health of the baby. Alcohol can impact brain development and could result in the baby having many health problems.
It’s important to make sure alcohol has been cut out completely when pregnant. While the odd drink might be fine, it’s just not worth the risk to do so.
Raw shellfish
There are a few foods within your diet that will need to be revised when it comes to being pregnant. Do a bit of research online when it comes to foods. There are red meats, for example, that will need to be well cooked before they’re eaten.
Raw shellfish is a no-no as is unpasteurised cheese and milk. This can be due to the bacteria inside the cheese and milk causing miscarriages and stillbirths
Heavy exercise
Be sure to limit the amount of exercise you do when it comes to being pregnant. There are some who may have kept up a regular exercise routine, which can likely still be done. However, it’s important to remember that heavy lifting should be avoided for the most part.
It might be a case of simply tailoring your exercise routine to something more pregnancy-friendly instead.
Mercury
Mercury is toxic when consumed too much for growing babies. It’s therefore essential to be wary of how much mercury is being consumed during pregnancy. Limit this to a small amount so that there’s no worry of it harming the baby before it arrives.
Tuna is the most common food type to contain mercury, so be aware of this when choosing what to eat.
It can be a bit of a minefield, to begin with, but these tips should be helpful in order to cut things out of your diet for the benefit of the baby!
