4 tips to help you buy your new family car

*collaborative post*

When you start a family your bank balance takes a massive blow. There really is no avoiding all the baby/family related spending that starts pretty much from the moment you get pregnant and doesn’t really ever stop. When I was pregnant with Tilly we realised we were going to need to invest in a bigger car as the boys were still in big bulky car seats. We are yet to buy ourselves a new family car, I am currently stuck sitting in the back and Leo has his car seat in the front whenever the five off us are off somewhere on an adventure.  While we save up, we are also researching what the most suitable car will be for our growing family’s needs. Today I have a guest post full of really useful tips if you too are also looking to buy a new family car. One day I will make it back to the passenger seat and Leo’s seat will fit in the back again – one day!

4 tips to help you buy your new family car

Making the decision to buy a new car can be difficult. It’s also something that you need to get right as well because if you make the wrong call, then you may find that you end up losing out and this is the last thing that you need.

Choosing a Car

When choosing a car, you need to make sure that it is right for you, your partner and your kids. You also need to make sure that it’s suitable for when the child gets older too. If you’re not quite sure if your car is big enough then you need to take into account the room that you’ll need for buggies, bags and accessories too. You also need to think about whether or not the car is safe enough, and if you are going to want to have more children in the future.

Thinking Outside the Box

You don’t need to hunt down a “family car” if you don’t want. If you are going to be spending a lot of your time commuting then you might want to opt for a saloon, as it’s durable and just as suited to the school run as anything else. If you know that you’re just having one child, then a hatchback may be more suited. Either way, when choosing your car, you need to make sure that you take into account the needs of your family and that you also take the time to focus on what your future holds. Safety

Cars really have never been as safe as they are today. Smart technology is now more prevalent than ever and there are tons of safety features available on the latest models too. If you want to help yourself here then you need to look up the safety rating of your car and you also need to make sure that your car comes with a fitting for a car seat too.  Airbags are also a consideration as you need to make sure that they can be adapted for the disabled, and any future children that you might have. Child locks should also be looked into, as this could be an influencing factor in your decision.

Doors

It doesn’t matter whether you have a five-door model or a three-door model because the one that you choose will largely depend on the needs of your family. Remember that children grow up and they might not always appreciate climbing in and out of the back seat. It can also be difficult for you to remove a car seat from a three-door car too, especially if you’re trying to avoid waking up a sleeping child. If you want a happy medium then you might want to try and get a sliding door instead, as this can really help you to get the best of both worlds. Of course, the car that you choose will largely depend on the requirements of your family, but if you need some additional help then it helps to do as much research as possible before you make your purchase.
