3 Valentines date night ideas for tired parents

3 Valentines date night ideas for tired parents

*collaborative post*

One of the things I miss the most from my pre-kids life is being able to spend quality time with Oli. Obviously I love the family we have created and enjoy spending time together as a five, I just miss having couple time and having my husband to myself for more than an hour once the kids finally go to bed. Valentine’s Day is approaching and this is the perfect excuse for parents to arrange some quality time together as a couple. In an ideal world I would like to go out to a fancy restaurant, maybe even to a hotel or have a spa day together on Valentines Day but with three kids and a stretched budget, I know this isn’t possible. Maybe you won’t get to spend the day in a sauna and the evening eating amazing food BUT Funky Pigeon have come up with some romantic date night ideas and activities for you to do this Valentine’s Day (some will need you to arrange a babysitter but others  are perfect for parents). It can be hard to come up with new and exciting things to do for date night, especially if you’ve been with your partner a long time, here are 3 date night ideas you can enjoy at home this Valentine’s Day. Father’s Day gift inspiration from Jacamo

Father’s Day gift inspiration from Jacamo

*sponsored post*

This blog is written by a mum (that’s me), for other mums and it’s main goal is to offer support and a sometimes much needed hug to other mums. However, I am fully aware that in most families there is someone else on the scene, working hard, making up the second part of the parenting team and they also need love, support and celebrating too. I am of course talking about Dads. Of course we appreciate and love our own dads and our babies dads all year around but, just like Mother’s Day, it’s nice to have a day especially for spoiling them and showing them how they mean to us and the kids. This year Father’s Day is on June 16th and whilst I am sure most dads would be happy with a homemade card or some undisturbed time in front of the TV, it is always nice to splash out a bit on the ones we love. If you are looking for a Father’s Day present for your own Dad or the father of your babies, a website you may not have considered browsing for his gift is Jacamo. When I think of Jacamo I think of larger size clothes for men and Johnny Vegas! In fact, Jacamo has so much more to offer than just plus size menswear and there are loads of great gift ideas that will be a perfect treat for your loved one this Father’s Day. View Post

The ONE thing all mums want for Mother’s Day

The ONE thing all mums want for Mother’s Day

*collaborative post – this post contains gifted items from Cosmetify*

This Sunday is Mother’s Day here in the UK. A day for celebrating our lovely mums and feeling the extra love from our own children too. Mums are amazing every single day of the year and deserve to be appreciated for everything they do all year round but I think Mother’s Day is a lovely way to go that little bit further and show your mum how much she really means to you. The question many of us find ourselves asking is this – what shall I buy my mum for Mother’s Day? This post isn’t your typical Mother’s Day gift guide, there are present ideas, sure, but I truly believe there is only one thing mums (especially those of young children) want. What is that thing? Well, that thing is time. View Post

Wooden book storage carts for toddlers

Wooden book storage carts for toddlers

*collaborative post*

My boys love books, they take after me in the fact that they are both little book worms. I adore how much they love reading and story time but it does mean our house is overflowing with books. There are two bookcases full of children’s books and an IKEA storage unit is crammed full of the works of the boys favourite authors: Julia Donaldson being Leo’s absolute favourite and Alex has a bit of an obsession with Spot the Dog. With Christmas around the corner, I am bracing myself for piles of new books coming into the house but I am stuck thinking, where the hell are they all going to go?! Book storage is something we can never have too much of in this house and I was thrilled when my lovely friend Sarah, blogger at From Day Dot, offered to let me review one of her handmade wooden storage carts. These mini storage carts are perfect for keeping a small pile of books in and are a fun solution to the ‘the bookcase is overflowing!‘ dilemma.  View Post

3 places to buy your child’s birthday present (that aren’t shops on the High Street)

It’s Alex’s second birthday this month. Firstly, I’m freaking out about my baby turning two but I’m also in a bit of a stress about what to buy him for his birthday. Our house is overrun with toys and I really don’t want to add more to it, there’s going to be no avoiding the massive influx of toys that will be taking over our house come the 21st of this month though! I’m getting bored of always shopping in the same shops on the high street and I’m trying to think of other places I can go browsing for Alex’s present this year.  View Post

Beautiful jewellery for mums – Kaya Jewellery review and giveaway

A bit about Kaya Jewellery

Kaya Jewellery is a brand created by mum of two daughters, Tanja. Tanja was inspired by her eldest daughter Kaya to create matching mother and daughter jewellery. On the kaya website you can find a whole range of mother daughter jewellery, including baby bracelets and mum necklaces. I am all for supporting small businesses, especially those that support a great cause, something which Kaya Jewellery does. Tanja wanted to find a way  to help others through her business and she donates part of her profits to Eduki, a foundation that helps to make sure underprivileged children in Gambia are able to go to school – amazing!

There are so many gorgeous options to chose from if you are looking for a gift for a new mum, your own mum or you just want to treat yourself. If you have a jewellery loving daughter who wants to be just like her mama, then you can find a whole load of matching jewellery sets, the majority of which can be customised. All the Kaya products are handmade in the UK and are made from good quality materials like sterling silver, precious stones and crystals.

Personalised infinity mum necklace review

I received a beautiful necklace from Kaya Jewellery, I completely adore it and haven’t taken it off since the day it arrived. My infinity mum necklace arrived in a gorgeous little pink box, complete with a polishing cloth to keep it looking shiny and in great condition. The infinity necklace looks like a figure of eight, the infinity symbol, and represents never ending love for the names of the people you have engraved on it. Obviously, I chose to have my boys names engraved on my necklace and I am so pleased with how they came out. The pendant is not big and bulky but it is just large enough to feature both my boys names (Leo and Alex) and for them to be easily read.

The necklace is made from sterling silver and the chain links are the perfect size, not too chunky but not too fragile and dainty either. I actually really like how strong the chain is without being too big, Alex has yanked on it quite a lot and it has managed to survive unscathed. I am going to say that the Kaya jewellery is pretty tough, if it can survive my toddler trying to rip it from my neck then it must be!

kaya jewellery

The quality of this necklace is amazing, considering it costs only £34.90 and the postage is free, as is the gift wrapping. I would have happily paid more for this necklace and without a shadow of a doubt I will be buying from Kaya Jewellery in the future. Kaya Jewellery is a great online shop to browse if you are looking for a really special Mother’s Day gift, birthday present or want to treat your daughter and yourself to some matching jewellery.

Why you should buy your baby personalised gifts * Gifts Online 4 U review *

I love personalised gifts. I have probably said that about a thousand times before on this blog but it’s the truth. As an early birthday present, Alex has been sent a beautiful personalised money box from GiftsOnline4u , a fab website specialising in beautiful personalised gifts for the whole family.  If you are not sold on the whole personalised gifts thing, then here are 3 reasons why they are a great idea for a baby gift and read on to find out more about Gifts Online 4 U and the beautiful money box Alex received.   View Post

Unique gift ideas for new parents with Uncommongoods

Unique gift ideas for new parents with Uncommongoods

There is no greater gift in this life than that of a baby. Yes, I know it sounds cheesy and for the first few months all they really do is cry and poo but having a baby really is the best thing in the world. Do you know what also happens when you have a baby? People like to buy you stuff, it is obviously not the best thing about bringing a human into the world but it is a nice little perk all the same. Although it is pretty easy to accept gifts as a new parent, buying a friend or family member a present when they become parents can be tricky, especially if you are looking for something unique. If you just can’t bear to give a new mum in your life yet another bouquet of flowers or a new dad another novelty ‘Who’s the Daddy?’ T-shirt to add to his growing collection, then it is worth you stopping by Uncommongoods online. There is massive selection of unique gifts perfect for new parents on the Uncommongoods website. Whether you are looking for a gift with a personal touch, a boozy gift to help the new parents wet the babies head or a gadget gift for a tech loving parent to occupy themselves with while the baby naps, you are sure to find the perfect gift and not have to worry about someone else already buying them it. Here are my top gift ideas for new parents, hope you find it useful. View Post

‘Daddy, you’re my hero’ – Celebrating Super Dads with Hallmark this Father’s Day

‘Daddy, you’re my hero’ – Celebrating Super Dads with Hallmark this Father’s Day

Recently Leo and his Daddy have been a bit obsessed with playing super heroes. You know the game, right? The one where you run around the house pretending to ‘blast’ the baddies and acting out imaginary fight scenes with each other, the more theatrical of us may also put on a mask and cape to get truly into character. Well, lately, Oli is no longer known as ‘Daddy’ in Leo’s eye’s, he is Batman, Leo is Robyn and Alex is baby Robyn (when I get the privilege of being invited to join in, my alter ego is Bat Girl). Seriously, these two are constantly playing super heroes, it has just become a normal part of our day now, no one bats an eyelid when Leo declares he is off to the Bat Cave (the bathroom) or his baby brother is suddenly being called by his super hero name. Leo and his Dad may love to play make believe super heroes but it is clear that Oli is Leo’s hero in the real world too, he is Super Dad. The ultimate Father’s day gift guide

The ultimate Father’s day gift guide

It is Father’s Day on June 19th and, although it is not all about the gift, I’m sure most you are looking to buy your Dad a little something to show him how special he is. I don’t know about you, but the men in my life are rubbish when it comes to giving ideas for gifts they may like. I’m always met with the same response of either ‘I don’t want anything’ or ‘I don’t care’. It can be so frustrating, especially when you don’t have a clue what to buy and you really want to treat them.  For anyone else who has a Dad or husband declaring they don’t want anything for Father’s Day (and I’m betting secretly that they do!) I have put together the ultimate Father’s Day gift guide to try and give you some inspiration. View Post

10 gifts that will make your Mum smile this Mother’s Day

I love my mum. I also love being a Mum. Therefore, I love Mother’s Day.

I know Mother’s Day is not all about the gift you give or receive. It is about reminding your mum how special she is and that you are grateful for everything she has done for you. It is about telling her how much you love her and how much she really means to you. I am sure we all tell our Mum this anyway but it is nice to have a day where we can all really celebrate how awesome our Mumma bears really are. Mums are so special and important that they most definitely deserve their very own day.

As well as cards and messages of love and appreciation, most people like to also buy their Mum a well deserved present on Mother’s Day. If you are looking for a gift with a bit of a difference and one that is sure to put a smile on your Mums face, then I have got the list for you. Also, if you are a Mum yourself and want to give the husband  kids a not-so-subtle hint then just leave this page open on the laptop!

10 gift ideas that will make your Mum smile this Mothers Day…

1. Mother’s Day Mum’s Survival Kit Gift £6.95
I love this novelty Mum’s survival kit. It includes lots of little bits and bobs including Love Heart sweets, coffee, a candle and much more. The small kit comes with a laminated label, explaining the significance of each item, ‘Love Hearts, to show you how much you are loved’ – this gift is so adorable.

2.Luxury Mothers Day gift basket £39.99
This gift basket is crammed full of goodies that are certain to make your Mum feel loved this Mothers Day. Items found in the basket include a photo frame, a candle, perfume, hand lotion, chocolates and much more.
                                              .

3. Personalised Prosecco cushion £35
I love this cushion! Who doesn’t love a nice sit down after a busy day and glass of Prosecco? Most women I know are mad for Prosecco, myself and my Mum included, and this gift is funny yet useful, a new cushion is never a bad thing. I would imagine a bottle of the fizzy stuff would compliment this gift just lovely.

4. Treat selection gift box £18.25
These surprise sweet treats look so good, I might just have to buy them for myself now. They may be more expensive than a box of Milk Tray, but these treats something your Mum is unlikely to buy for herself and they are all lovingly made by top London chefs. I really wish I hadn’t given chocolate up for lent!

5. Coffee lovers gift set £53.80
Hands up if you can’t get through the day without coffee? I definitely can’t that’s for sure. This coffee gift set would make the perfect gift for the sleep deprived, caffeine loving Mum. I really like the look of the copper mug and cafetiere and the fact it comes with shortbread biscuits is nice little bonus.

6. Sweet Treats Hamper £25
Ok, I realise most of these gifts include some kind of food or drink but, in my opinion, these are the best kind of gifts. This sweet treat hamper is full of chocolate, cake, tea and lots of more yummy treats. There is nothing like cake to put a smile on someone’s face, is there?

7. The Book of Mum – personalised gift book £7.50 – £49.50
This personalised book is such a unique and beautiful gift. Simply go to The Book of Everyone website, type in your name, your Mum’s name and her date of birth and, voila, your Book of Mum is complete. The pages are full with quirky pictures, facts about your Mum’s year of birth, sweet little verses and pages where you can add your own personal anecdotes. I think this is a great gift and you can get the book in digital, paperback, hardback or deluxe form.

Fancy making something for your Mum this year? I found this beautiful salt dough bunting on Pinterest. Salt dough is so easy to make and you can get the kids to paint them if you wanted. A home made gift always feels extra special, it shows you have put a lot of time, effort and love in to your present.

9. Giant wine glass £13.48
This is a bit of a joke gift but surely there has been a time we have all wished we owned a wine glass this big? If your mum enjoys a glass of wine I am sure this giant glass will make her giggle. The glass fits a whole bottle of wine so no running back and forth to the kitchen on a Saturday night, yay!

10. Biscuit bouquet
If you are quite the baker in the kitchen, why not make your Mum a biscuit bouquet for Mother’s day? The biscuits below are lemon cookies with royal icing, you could make whatever recipe you want though, cut them with heart and flowers shaped cookie cutters and present however you wish. I think this little plant pot full of biscuits is really cute.

So there you go, 10 gift ideas that are sure to make your Mum smile this Mother’s day. Although, I am sure a lie in, a hot cup of tea and a big hug would do the job just fine as well.

Christmas treat mason jars

This year I am being super organised when it comes to Christmas. I have already bought nearly everyone’s presents and most have even been wrapped up in festive paper and delivered to their recipients already. As well as being uncharacteristically organised this year, I also decided to hand make some of my gifts. I love a gift that has been lovingly made by someone, a gift someone has put real thought and effort into and not been plucked off a shelf in a stressful Christmas shopping frenzy. I have recently fallen in love with knitting so, of course, I decided to knit a few gifts but, after spending lots of time on Pinterest, I decided to get involved in all this mason jar business. I have 3 lovely nieces (ages 9 – 11) and as Oli and I are always unsure what to buy them, I decided to create a mason jar of Christmas treats for them. This is a cheap and cheerful gift that also looks great and will (hopefully) be happily received.

So, if you fancy making a Christmas treat mason jar perfect for a little lady in your family, here is what you will need…

* A jar – I got mine from Ikea. They are quite big and have a strong clip for the lid. At only £2.50, these jars are perfect.

KORKEN Jar with lid IKEA The jar has an aroma-tight seal, which makes it perfect for preserving your favourite homemade jams and jellies.

* Accessories – To fill these jars I had to send my mind back to my childhood and try and remember what things an 11 year old loves. I had a browse around Claire’s Accessories and before I knew it I had filled my basket with nail varnish, hair accessories and make up (the kiddies stuff, I don’t think my sister would appreciate me giving her pre teen a jar full of MAC foundation!) I also popped in to Primark and grabbed a pack of about 20 hair bobble for £1. As I was buying for 3, I found it worked out cheaper to buy multi packs of hair accessories and split them between the 3 jars.

| Nail Varnish £3 | Hair Clips £3.50 | Pucker Pops £2  | DIY bracelet kit £4.50 |

* Sweet treats – Who doesn’t love chocolate? I bought a big bag of chocolate coins and added a handful to each of the jars to add to the festive feel. I also bought some hot chocolate sachets and mini marshmallows and added them as well (Asda have an offer of 4 hot chocolate sachets for a £1, this made me very happy). Hot chocolate at Christmas time is a must, right? I also got a tin of Lollipops and Love hearts etc for £5 from Tesco and filled up the rest of the jars with these.

* Decoration – I decided not decorate the actual jar as I thought if the girls wanted to they could do this themselves. They are all quite creative and would probably enjoy painting/sticking things to the jars themselves. Also, by leaving the jars plain, the girls can now use them for keeping whatever they want in once they have emptied out all their Christmas treats (if I had decorated them in Christmas ribbon or varnish they may have been more inclined to bin them along with the wrapping paper). I went for a minimalistic look and just stuck a star ribbon to the lid and tied a cute little brown gift tag to each, simple yet effective.

What do you think of these Christmas treat mason jars, would you make something similar? I really hope the girls like them as much as I enjoyed putting them together for them. Do you like hand made gifts too?
