5 ways to treat yourself this Christmas – you deserve it!

5 ways to treat yourself this Christmas – you deserve it!

*collaborative post*

It’s December, the festive season is now in full swing and if you’re not getting bombarded with Christmas joy when you’re out at the shops, it’s sparkling and twinkling all over our phones on social media too. Amongst all the photos of everyone’s decorated Christmas trees and smiling faces at Christmas markets, I saw a post on my Facebook feed the other day that I can’t stop thinking about. To power phrase, the post was saying that it’s not Santa who brings the magic at Christmas, it’s us, all the mums and dads of the world. You know what? It’s so true. Kids may get most excited about a visit from the main man in red when they think about Christmas but is it us parents who make the whole season special for our little ones. Who brings the magic for us though? While you’re busy building ginger bread houses, creating Christmas crafts, going to pantomimes and braving the ice rink, remember to make some time to treat yourself this Christmas too and make sure you do so without the Mum guilt. Christmas is undoubtedly about the kids and their happiness is most important but make sure you do something for you this December too. You mama, you bring the magic, you are the one who creates a Christmas full of joy and magical moments so do something for yourself today, ignore the to do list for a while and just say a big ‘Merry Christmas to me’. You deserve to reward yourself for all your hard work, here’s a list of ideas of how you can do so without suffering with stupid Mum guilt too – merry Christmas you wonderful people. View Post

How to avoid a mummy meltdown this Christmas

How to avoid a mummy meltdown this Christmas

*sponsored content*

Yup, I said it. The ‘c’ word has been uttered and it’s only October. You can’t blame me though for chatting about Christmas already, The X Factor is on TV, big tubs of chocolates are for sale in the supermarkets and my local has already got their big Book Your Christmas Party Here! sign up. I love Christmas; the food, the family time, the cosiness, the traditions, the booze, the films – I love it all! I’m not going to lie to you though, I do get quite stressed out in the lead up as when it comes to Christmas, there is A LOT of organising that needs to be done. I have been partial to the odd Christmas related mummy meltdown in recent years and this year I am going to make it my mission to fully enjoy the festive period and not get overwhelmed by all the arrangements for the big day. Like the sound of a meltdown free Christmas? Read on to find out how I am planning to make preparing for Christmas stress free this year. View Post

5 reasons I would love to celebrate Christmas abroad

5 reasons I would love to celebrate Christmas abroad

*collaborative post*

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas and I don’t mean white with snow. I’m dreaming of white sand between my toes, sitting on a beach looking out at a beautiful clear blue ocean with the hot sun beating down on me. Christmas in the UK is a bit meh when it comes to the weather isn’t it? It’s very rarely cold enough for us to wake up on Christmas morning with snow outside as well as presents under the tree, more often than not it’s just raining and cold. Of course, taking my boys to Lapland is on the ultimate Christmas bucket list, I would love for them to experience snow for the first time and have a truly authentic Christmas experience: sleigh rides, snow ball fights and visiting Santa in his grotto – the works. BUT celebrating Christmas abroad, somewhere hot, is also something I would like to do at least once as a family. Last April we were meant to go on a big family holiday to Mauritius, for lots of different reasons it didn’t happen and we spent 10 days in Italy instead. While our Italia holiday was amazing, I was disappointed we didn’t get to go relax on the beautiful beaches of Mauritius. So, if I could have my once in a lifetime Christmas Day in the sun, Mauritius would be my dream destination. Need convincing that celebrating Christmas abroad would be a great idea? Here are 5 reasons I would love to spend a Christmas Day in the sun. View Post

A big family Christmas and baby’s first

A big family Christmas and baby’s first

It’s over! After all that present buying, wrapping and food shopping, Christmas has been and gone for another year. I hope you all had a lovely time whatever you got up to and your children had a wonderfully magical day too. This year I haven’t really felt in the Christmas spirit at all, I think having a 2 month old baby and still being a bit hormonal and sleep deprived may have something to do with it. I am a bit disappointed I wasn’t totally in the festive mood as it was Alex’s first Christmas and was also the first year Leo really got excited about Santa coming. Anyway, I still had a lovely day with my in laws and spending the couple days after Christmas with my family was fun. This was the first year Oli and I have had family over for Christmas and it went surprisingly well, no food got burnt and everyone had a nice time (or so they said!). I thought it would be a nice idea to create a post full of photos from our first big family Christmas, our first one as a family of four and Alex’s first one ever. View Post

The Christmas Tag

The Christmas Tag

It is already the 12th of December and this is my first festive post of the year! I need to dig out my Christmas jumper, whack the Michael Buble album on and get into the Christmas spirit I think, there’s only 13 days left to go after all. So to get my blog feeling a little less scrooge like I am taking up the challenge to do the Christmas tag, thanks to the lovely Lucy (Lucy at Home) for my nomination. I am a big lover of Christmas really – I think it’s just sleep deprivation killing my Christmas buzz this year – so I am looking forward to answering these questions all about the best day of the year. Christmas time 2015

Hello everyone!

I am back after having a mini blogging break over Christmas. It has been so nice not thinking about writing posts, blog stats, comments, link ups and all the other things that come hand in hand with being a blogger and instead just spending lots of quality time with my wonderful family. I am happy to be back sat at my laptop now though, with a head full of ideas and a fresh mind waiting to see what 2016 holds.

Anyway, it is not new year yet so lets talk about Christmas. What did you all get up to? Did you spend lots of time with family and did your children have a magical day? Did you eat way too much chocolate and drink too much wine? I hope so. I know I definitely did. Whatever you did I hope you had a great time.

Christmas with young children can be a bit hit or miss, can’t it? Unfortunately, this year with Leo I would say the latter better describes our day. He seemed vaguely interested while opening his presents, didn’t touch his Christmas dinner and basically just wanted to watch his new Thomas the Tank DVD all day. We did have a nice time though, Oli and I got slightly merry and Leo ate loads of chocolate but he just didn’t seem that excited, maybe next year when he is 3 he will be a bit more enthusiastic.

Here are some photo’s from Christmas and the past few days..

Unwrapping one of his many presents.

Putting the plate of snacks out ready for Santa and the reindeer.
Our festive fireplace.
Oli, his dinner and 2 of his many glasses of wine.
Cheeky boy stealing the sprinkles off the cake.
So..much..Thomas!
Oli got a Bb8. I give it another week before Leo or Jessy destroy it.
On boxing day we went for a walk in The New Forest. After staying in all day on Christmas and eating our body weight in cheese and crackers, a nice long walk was exactly what we needed – Leo even tried to go for a swim!

There were loads of ponies wandering around.
Very festive in The New Forest, there was holly everywhere.
Splashing!
Such a pretty place.
Because, sometimes, jumping in puddles just isn’t enough.
We have spent the last couple days with my parents which has been lovely. Mum and I went shopping in Southampton the other day while Oli and Dad took Leo to Marwell Zoo. In the evenings we, can you guess, drank wine, ate way too much food and played board games. Family is definitely what makes Christmas time so special and I was so happy my parents came to stay, despite my poor Dad being really ill.

The only picture from the boys day at the zoo.
Food, drink, family and board games – The recipe for a perfect, christmassy evening.
My beautiful Mum.
Yesterday Leo and I went on a train ride to Reading to spend the day with my older sister. Although I found the whole toddler on a train scenario really quite stressful, it was lovely to spend the day with my sister just having lunch (so much food!!) and catching up.

At least one of us could relax and enjoy the train ride.
He slept all through lunch, this never happens! Gave me and my sister a chance to have a good old chat though so that was nice.
I am now looking forward to New Years Eve tomorrow night. We don’t have a babysitter but, after a busy 2015, it will be nice to just relax with Oli in the evening, finish off the last of the Christmas food and drink and say hello to 2016.

I would love to hear what you all got up to over Christmas. Was the day as good and you had hoped it would be? Any of you lucky enough to have a babysitter and got big plans for tomorrow night? Have fun whatever you are up to.

Merry Christmas!

It’s Christmas tomorrow!! I don’t know who is more excited, me or my two year old. I think the answer is probably me.

This is just a very quick post to say..

Thank you so much to all of you lovely people who have taken the time to read, comment and share my blog this year. I have loved getting to know you all and look forward to hearing about what you have all got up to over Christmas and getting to know you all a bit more in 2016.

I hope you all have a wonderful, magical day tomorrow celebrating with your families and I shall be back writing posts once the festive period is over.

Now I must be off, I have a cake to bake, presents to wrap and a toddler who needs entertaining.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone.

Xx

You know you have a toddler when…The Christmas Edition

It is nearly Christmas! A week today Leo will be putting a mince pie out for Santa and a carrot for Rudolf and going straight to sleep while Oli and I relax on the sofa with some kind of festive beverage – well that’s the plan anyway. In reality, there will probably be the usual tears at bedtime and Oli and I will spend the evening trying to build complicated train tracks and doing our usual last minute wrapping.

I love Christmas but I can’t help but notice the festive season is very different now that I am a mum. Having a little one brings all the magic back in to Christmas but being a parent also brings lots of other, not always quite as wonderful, things too. You know you have a toddler when was my second ever post on this blog, I have decided to write a Christmas edition. Parents of toddlers, let me know if you agree!
You know you have a toddler at Christmas time when…
1. There are more baubles on the floor than on the tree – I seriously don’t know why we even bothered decorating the tree, I really don’t.
2. You have done most of your shopping online – Have you ever tried maneuvering a pram around a jam packed shop before? It is not fun. I would much rather sit on the sofa while Leo plays with his toys. No boring shopping for him and no stress for me, everyone wins.
3. You are too scared to look at your bank account – This is a direct result of point number 2. This probably applies for most people but there are so many toys out there, sometimes it is hard to resist spoiling our little ones at Christmas.
4. You don’t get to watch Christmas films – Gone are the days of lazing around on December afternoons watching all the Christmas classics, Elf and Santa Clause: The Movie are the favourites in our house. Instead, the only festive TV I get to see are the Christmas special episodes of Thomas the Tank and Peppa Pig, on repeat. Maybe next year Leo will sit through a film that isn’t animated…
5. There’s no good time to wrap – Yes I could wrap Leo’s presents in the couple of hours in the evening between his bedtime and mine but I am way too knackered at that point to be trying to find the end of the selotape. It’s not even as though I can wrap other peoples presents in the day when he’s awake either because he would just end up unwrapping them or running off with the scissors.
6. Your kitchen table is covered in Christmas crafts – During December, you are bombarded with ideas for crafts on Pinterest and it is hard to resist giving them a go with your own child. I would not be surprised if Leo’s feet are going to be permanently paint stained after all the feet Snowmen/reindeer faces we have been making. Card, pipe cleaners and goggly eyes have been littered across our kitchen since December 1st and most of my little man’s ‘masterpieces’ are only really good enough to remain on the table where they were made.
7. You are excited for Santa again – You may know the big secret about the big guy but your little one doesn’t. Watching your toddler get excited about going to visit Santa and staring in awe at all the pretty lights, elves and reindeer is really amazing (until you finally get your turn to see Santa and your child is massively unimpressed/runs off crying). Leo loves to talk and sing about Santa all the time, I can’t wait to see his face on Christmas day when he see’s all his presents from Old Saint Nick.
8. Christmas day drinking isn’t the same – Unless you have family over who can watch your toddler while you pass out in a baileys induced coma by 5pm, drinking as soon as you wake up on Christmas morning maybe isn’t such a good idea any more.
So, Mums and Dads, do you agree? Would you add anything else to this list? I would love to know what has changed at Christmas now that you have a child.

A night at the adult panto

I went out last night. I don’t mean I popped to the shop to get some milk and bread for the morning. I mean I went out, out. Like, I actually bothered to put make up on, put on something pretty and I drank alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol.

A couple of months a go my lovely cousin arranged a girls night out with myself, my sister and a few of her school run friends. She booked us all tickets to go see an adult pantomime at The Stage Door
in Southampton. The panto is called Beauty and her Beast and judging by the reviews I had read, we were in for a very naughty show.

My sister and I got the train in to Southampton and had an amazing passion fruit and rum cocktail before going to meet the others in the theatre. It was so so good, I wish I had written down what was in it. I quite like the idea of spending Christmas evening with a mince pie in one hand and a martini glass in the other,

Passion fruit cocktails are a.maze.ing!

Me sitting in a bar on a Saturday night, makes a change from a cup of tea on the sofa.

After finishing off our cocktails, we headed over to The Stage Door and met up with the other girls. The bar in the theatre is nice and cosy and was looking very festive with a Christmas tree in the corner. I got started on the gins while the other girls sipped on Prosecco (I think I am the only person in the world who doesn’t love the stuff). In no time at all it was time to go upstairs to the show room, find our seats and get ready for the show.

Beauty and her Beast is a very rude, crude and down right dirty twist on the tale of Beauty and the Beast and also Cinderella. The tale is told by a very flirty, sexually frustrated fairy, who has made it her mission to create romance between Beauty and the handsome Prince Charmless.
Dame Dollops, Muddles and Beauty’s best friend Tinker BellEnd all try and help bring the couple together. As you can imagine, there are lots of filthy jokes along the way and some hilarious songs with truly obscene lyrics. Do not go see this panto if you in the slightest bit prude, you won’t enjoy it, the foul language is relentless. The girls and I found it hysterical but there are probably some people out there who would be sat shaking their heads in disgust.
The pantomime is not just rude songs and dirty jokes though. There were lots of references to modern day popular culture, including the John Lewis Christmas advert, Adele’s Hello and David Cameron’s antics with a pig.  If you want to have a good laugh then you should definitely grab some friends and go see Beauty and her Beast. It is running until January 3rd, last night was only the second night and the cast were brilliant, I only noticed one little mistake – the poor fairy got her wings stuck to the ceiling, oops!
Group photo.

Once the show finished most of the girls went home. I don’t get out very often so there was no way I was going home at 10! My sister, cousin and I all headed back to the cocktail bar for late night happy hour. We really made the most of the 2 for 1 on drinks and at some point we decided we just had to go dancing. So that is exactly what we did. We headed off to a club and danced in to the early hours, it was so much fun.

Buy one get one free is always a good thing.
Now that I don’t go out every weekend, when I do manage to get a night on the town I enjoy it so much more and maybe, just maybe, I go a bit mad on the gin. Oh well, it is nearly Christmas and it will probably be at least another 6 months before I set foot in a night club again so one night of vast alcohol consumption isn’t going to hurt, is it?
Cousins.

Surprisingly, today I feel pretty good. Oli has been my hero, he got up with the kids this morning and made me not one, but two (two!) bacon sandwiches for breakfast. I really love that man.
Have you got any nights out planned this festive season? Would you go see an adult pantomime? I had such a laugh 🙂

Living with grief

I miss my Nan.
Ever since she passed away in May, I haven’t stopped missing her. With Christmas approaching and what would have been her 91st birthday 5 days after that, Nan is very much in my mind at the moment.

This will be our first Christmas without her. Although in recent years I haven’t always seen Nan on Christmas day, I always see her at some point during the festive period. It feels strange, this year I will be buying one less Christmas gift and there is going to be one less face in all the family photographs. What a lovely, kind face it was as well.
Loosing someone we love is awful. The grief that comes with loss is also pretty damn horrible. I know that over time, the pain of loosing a loved one slowly fades, it never truly goes though. This post is called Living with guilt, as opposed to Dealing with Grief, as I don’t think grief can be dealt with.
To deal with something, suggests it can be fixed. A leaky tap or a flickering light can be fixed. Unfortunately, grief is not a problem so easily resolved. Grief is more like, say, a benign, inoperable tumour. It’s not life threatening but it’s not going anywhere either. There may be days where you don’t think about it all, but then there are also the days where it is all you can think about. It’s always there, somewhere beneath the surface, but you just learn to live with it.
A day will come when I will be able to look at photos of Nan and not feel sad. Or all the little things that remind me of her, like fridge magnets and Rich Tea biscuits, will make me smile instead of leaving me trying to fight back tears.
Christmas is a time for family. This year a very special member of our family won’t be there. Though they may not be there in person, I know that both my Nan and my Granddad will be with us in some way. I am going to try and enjoy every second of Christmas this year, I  know my Nan wouldn’t want it any other way.
Is this your first Christmas without a loved one too? I hope that you manage to enjoy your day. What are your thoughts on grief?

Fed up Mummy needs some wine

This year for Christmas I have bought Leo lots of books to fill up his stocking. Amongst these books is the best selling Christmas counting book, Father Christmas needs a Wee.

I had not planned to give this book to Leo until Christmas day but yesterday we were having a particularly stressful lunchtime and the book was used as a bargaining tool to get Leo into his high chair. Not perfect parenting I know but some times you got to do what you go to do to have a peaceful lunchtime.

Did I get to eat my food in peace?

Of course not. After reading the book once, and foolishly thinking this would be satisfactory for a 2 year old, I was then ordered to read the book repeatedly for the next hour and then again in random intervals throughout the rest of the day.

Leo loves Father Christmas Needs a Wee and it is a great counting book but, oh my, I was so fed up of reading it by the end of the day. I am now considering hiding it until Christmas Day, as was the original plan.

It was probably when I was reading this book for about the 20th time, I was inspired to write my own version. I hope you enjoy…

Fed up Mummy needs some wine.

Fed up Mummy needs some wine,
She has been reading the same book since lunch time.
During read one,
one happy son, this book is fun.
During read two,
two shouts of ‘Santa needs a poo?’
During read three,
we’ll stop after three, wishes Mum foolishly.
During read four
four giggles from the toddler, who clearly wants more.
During read five,
five hours until Daddy’s home, will Mum survive?
During read six,
falling asleep, eyes in need of matchsticks.
During read seven,
a realisation that it is nearly bedtime, half seven. It will soon be wine time – heaven!
During read eight,
eight wishes for the toddler to get bored, Mummy’s got a long wait.
During read nine,
Mummy feels like she wrote it, knows every line.
During read ten,
ten seconds of silence before the dreaded ‘again, again again!’.
So I am sure you will agree that is completely fine,
for fed up Mummy to drink lots of some wine.
What do you think? Do you ever feel like this when your toddler makes you read the same book over and over for hours? I could definitely have drank a whole bottle yesterday, I was so fed up of Father Christmas needs a friggin’ wee!

Driving home for Christmas – road safety tips this winter

Driving home for Christmas – road safety tips this winter

Last weekend my little family and I loaded the car up with Christmas presents and drove the 4 hour journey north to visit our parents in Mid Wales. Yes, I know it is still only November but we live so far away now, we probably won’t have another chance before Christmas to see them and deliver all our gifts. I miss living in Swansea and only being an hour and half away, a 4 hour drive for me is a big deal. You see, I have not always been the most confident of drivers, it took me a fair few attempts to pass my test and I have, unfortunately, had a few bumps and scrapes along the way. In more recent years I have been steadily getting more comfortable driving on motorways and driving on roads I don’t know. However, this confidence is always significantly knocked when there has been an accident on route, like there was this weekend…. View Post

Gingerbread muffins with rum buttercream

I love baking, I particularly love baking in the weeks leading up to Christmas and my all time favourite treat to bake is gingerbread, Leo has inherited my love for these biscuits bursting with spices and flavour and he has been asking for them for over a week now. A while a go I baked a gingercake and iced it with spiced rum buttercream and it was amazing, if I do say so myself. So yesterday I decided to adapt this recipe slightly and voilà, the gingerbread muffins with rum buttercream frosting were born. If you don’t know me personally and have not been subjected to eating things I have baked before, you should know that my treats are no show stoppers to envy those of Mary Berry herself – although they may rarely be pretty, they always taste good. For the little people in you life I would suggest icing them before you add the rum to the mixture, the rum comes through quite strongly. I am not sure if you can get drunk via cake but I wouldn’t want to risk it!
So here is the recipe, Gingerbread muffins iced with rum buttercream, topped with festive gingerbread men (a lengthy title I know-suggestions welcome!)…

Ingredients…

For the gingerbread men,,,
2tsp ground ginger
1tsp bicarb of soda
1tsp cinnamon
3 tbsp golden syrup
1 beaten egg
2oz butter
3oz light brown sugar
For the muffins
5oz butter
5oz dark brown sugar
5oz self raising flour
3 eggs
1tso ground ginger
1tsp cinnamon
1tsp cloves
1tsp allspice
For the buttercream
Morgans spiced rum
6oz icing sugar
3oz butter

Method
This recipe makes 6 large muffins or 12 smaller cakes. The gingerbread recipe will make approx 12 small ginger bread.

1. Sift flour, bicarbonate of soda and all the spices together into a large bowl. Rub in the butter until the mixture resemble fluffy breadcrumbs – if you’ve not made gingerbread before it is a messy process!

2. Mix in the sugar and add the beaten egg and golden syrup. Mix until all the ingredients are combined.

3, Wrap dough in cling film and put in the fridge, My mixture ended up a little runny so I left in the fridge for about 20 minutes.

4. Slightly flour a large surface and a rolling pin. Roll out dough to desired thickness and cut out gingerbread men. I had planned to stand mine on the frosting but they ended up too big and heavy, if you want to try this then I would say use the smallest cutter you can find or go free hand if you’re feeling brave.

5. Place on a greased baking try and bake for 15 minutes on 180/gas 4.

6. While the gingerbread men are cooking measure out all ingredients for the muffins.

7. Mix sugar and butter in a food processor until combined. Sift in the flour and all the spices and mix well.

8. Add the eggs gradually and mix. The muffin mixture will look really runny but that’s ok, these cakes are really moist.

9. Add 6 large muffins cases to a baking tray or 12 cupcake cases and add mixture evenly. I over filled mine by accident and some of them exploded a bit (see photo above, oops) so make sure you don’t add too much to each case.

10. Remove gingerbread from oven and leave to cool on a wire rack. Bake muffins at 180/gas 4 for 15-20minutres. They are done when they are firm but still have a bit of a bounce when you press the top.

11. Remove cakes from oven and leave to cool. Measure out half the icing sugar for frosting and mix with the butter.

12. Once combined, add the rest of the icing sugar and stir until smooth. Add 2 bottle caps full of spiced rum (or more, depending how boozey you want the cakes to be!) and stir. If the mixture goes too runny, keep adding icing sugar until desired consistency.

13. Put icing into a piping bag and decorate cakes once they have completely cooled. I am not very good at piping so I am sure your cakes will end up looking more attractive than mine!

14. Top with gingerbread men or if your biscuits end up too big (like mine, ahem..), just lie them down for a little rest on the side.

15. Eat and enjoy 🙂

Do you like baking at Christmas time? If you enjoy muffins, gingerbread men and rum, then you really should give these a go, what’s not to like? 🙂

Christmas treat mason jars

This year I am being super organised when it comes to Christmas. I have already bought nearly everyone’s presents and most have even been wrapped up in festive paper and delivered to their recipients already. As well as being uncharacteristically organised this year, I also decided to hand make some of my gifts. I love a gift that has been lovingly made by someone, a gift someone has put real thought and effort into and not been plucked off a shelf in a stressful Christmas shopping frenzy. I have recently fallen in love with knitting so, of course, I decided to knit a few gifts but, after spending lots of time on Pinterest, I decided to get involved in all this mason jar business. I have 3 lovely nieces (ages 9 – 11) and as Oli and I are always unsure what to buy them, I decided to create a mason jar of Christmas treats for them. This is a cheap and cheerful gift that also looks great and will (hopefully) be happily received.

So, if you fancy making a Christmas treat mason jar perfect for a little lady in your family, here is what you will need…

* A jar – I got mine from Ikea. They are quite big and have a strong clip for the lid. At only £2.50, these jars are perfect.

KORKEN Jar with lid IKEA The jar has an aroma-tight seal, which makes it perfect for preserving your favourite homemade jams and jellies.

* Accessories – To fill these jars I had to send my mind back to my childhood and try and remember what things an 11 year old loves. I had a browse around Claire’s Accessories and before I knew it I had filled my basket with nail varnish, hair accessories and make up (the kiddies stuff, I don’t think my sister would appreciate me giving her pre teen a jar full of MAC foundation!) I also popped in to Primark and grabbed a pack of about 20 hair bobble for £1. As I was buying for 3, I found it worked out cheaper to buy multi packs of hair accessories and split them between the 3 jars.

| Nail Varnish £3 | Hair Clips £3.50 | Pucker Pops £2  | DIY bracelet kit £4.50 |

* Sweet treats – Who doesn’t love chocolate? I bought a big bag of chocolate coins and added a handful to each of the jars to add to the festive feel. I also bought some hot chocolate sachets and mini marshmallows and added them as well (Asda have an offer of 4 hot chocolate sachets for a £1, this made me very happy). Hot chocolate at Christmas time is a must, right? I also got a tin of Lollipops and Love hearts etc for £5 from Tesco and filled up the rest of the jars with these.

* Decoration – I decided not decorate the actual jar as I thought if the girls wanted to they could do this themselves. They are all quite creative and would probably enjoy painting/sticking things to the jars themselves. Also, by leaving the jars plain, the girls can now use them for keeping whatever they want in once they have emptied out all their Christmas treats (if I had decorated them in Christmas ribbon or varnish they may have been more inclined to bin them along with the wrapping paper). I went for a minimalistic look and just stuck a star ribbon to the lid and tied a cute little brown gift tag to each, simple yet effective.

What do you think of these Christmas treat mason jars, would you make something similar? I really hope the girls like them as much as I enjoyed putting them together for them. Do you like hand made gifts too?
